Default Hmmm, question on electrical issue

I have a 14 FLHX. It was fine up until the very end of Sept 17 when I had to replace the battery. Went on a trip of over 1200 miles and had absolutely no issues. Now, it act like the battery is dead even though it has been plugged into a Battery Tender since my last ride. The light on the Tender show green (charged). I unplug the tender, and its back to acting dead.

It will be going in for the 25000 mile service soon, but I was hoping to get some ideas on what might be wrong. I did check all the battery connections and they are look good and are tight. No corrosion etc.

Any ideas, thoughts and knowledge will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I would first test your battery. Sounds crazy but a good place to start. If you have the tools, try disconnecting the battery first. Then connect battery to a charger not a tender, for a half hour and then test voltage and load test if you have that tester.

I agree first load test the battery, and check the battery conections-if all test good-check all fuses.. But most likely a bad battery-a plate or someting could be broken inside from rough handling?? it should be warrenty.

I would pull the battery and take it to Batteries plus or similar store. They will test it for free.

Could be a bad battery.. or just plain too cold. Where is the bike stored - in the garage?

My bike is on the tender- shows green. When I go to start it, it is really difficult. In fact, I had to jump it once. After getting it running, you could tell that it was charging and the bike started fine the next few times.

What I believe it that we have had some very cold weather here - below0 several times. My bike is in the garage (inside a trailer) but still cold out there. Think this has an affect on the battery.

My backup generator, for example, is electric start. If I charge the battery, it will only last for a short time. So mow, I keep the charger on all the time and it starts just fine.

I will put a new battery in my bike this riding season. My current battery is over 4 years old (Sept 14). I will also install a jump start cable on the battery.

At 25k miles, it might be the starter getting weak.
