Default Cleaning Question

Howdy. Please don't laugh. I had my seat off for the first time 2023 Road Glide while putting a Wind Rider cover on and noticed how filthy it was. Can I just spray that down the next time when washing my bike or should I damp a cloth and wipe it down that way? I'm worried about jacking up the electronics under the seat. THANKS, I appreciate your time and help.

Chris

I used a air blower off my compressor then wiped mine down with a damp towel. Im sure others will chime in soon with alternate methods.

I generally blow the worst off with compressed air, dry wipe what I can with a rag and then use whatever (usually Windex for some reason in my case) to clean the rest up. I have gotten lazier over the years, and instead of making this part of my cleaning routine, it's on an as-needed basis when I'm working under there. Full disclosure, I'm becoming more likely to just wipe the bike down after riding in the rain than actually taking it outside for a good wash these days. It's my main transport so it's not the prettiest, anyway.

If you think under your seat it dirty, pull off the right side cover, yowsa does it get dirty under there!

IMHO, zero issues with washing it down, been doing it for eon's, never a problem. Don't use a pressure washer or "jet stream" from the hose, just use shower. Gets wet in the rain.....

I concur. Wet with low pressure, wash with soapy rag or sponge and rinse with low pressure then dry.

I use a spray bottle of water and car washing soap to lift the dirt. Remove the dirt with a damp sponge, then wipe dry. No garden hose flow of water near the ECM and relays.

I've pulled my main fuse and used foam can for under seat and behind side covers, then soft brush and shower everything down. Then I've used leaf blower to really dry everything. Still had the bike sit for about 24 hrs, then put main fuse back in and everything worked fine.

I'm not going to say what you should do. But when the transmission drain plug came out on my 18' Fatboy while on a trip two years ago, it left a mess. You name it and there was oil. When I finally got around to cleaning it, I took the seat off, removed the battery and poured degreaser straight from the gallon jug over everything. I then used a hand mitt and a bucket of diluted degreaser and scrubbed where I could reach. To rinse, I poured a few buckets of fresh water over everything and let it air dry. Never had an issue.
