I like to do a little homework before I purchase anything. I have had the old FP and the PC on older bikes. I have bought the t-shirt when it comes to mods. I have made a pak with myself to keep things simple on this 14 FLHXS. A tuner will help with throttle response and will make the bike run smoother. Just trying to get some input from a new FP3 owner.
I just installed a stage 1 kit from Vance and Hines. Got the Monster slip ons, power dual headers and the Drak air cleaner. I installed it all in stages as the delivery trucks were scattered delivering everything.
With the slipons and the FP3 I noticed no difference, ran smooth (no backfiring). With the Air cleaner and the slipons it was perhaps a little noticeable on the smoothness at highway speeds, might just be perception.
Once the power duals went on and re-tuned there was a noticeable improvement in throttle response and acceleration. Not dramatic but noticeable,.
FP3 gets my vote. Is it good for those that really like to build up the motor and really dial it in on a dyno?... nope. Is it good for the person that wants their bike to run better while keeping it simple?... yep. Just my opinion. I've seen it as low as $319 online. It'll be one of my winter add-ons.
I had nothing but trouble out of my FP3. Bike would not even start when I tried to run autotune. On one occasion I had to take it back to the dealer because a warning light that came on and wouldn't go off after I tried to flash a map. tech support told me I shouldn't need to auto tune because their maps are close enough. They sent a map for me to try.Bike seem too rich. Gas mileage went down and loss power. After about a week tech support finally return my call via email telling me that they would have a update soon. I notice it done a update the other day but I was in the middle of a trip and didn't want to risk being stranded. I'll give it a try next week from the safety of my garage. we'll see
I put one of these on my dyna switchback. It was like a whole new bike. Made it run like it should have when I purchased it!
Would highly recommend this product.
