Mine had the belt noise initially. I took it to the dealer and had them double check it. According to them, no issues. So I just rode it. The noise persisted for a while but now with some miles on the bike, it has gone away. A colleague at work also has a 2018 (bought new) and had this problem. Same for him, the noise just went away after a while.

I suspect that leaks are a rare problem. I can only recall one person ever mentioning they had a leak. The bigger issue for me is the latch. It's right in the way. I suspect that using a liner and packing it full would be problematic getting it in and out. Plus, the stock bags are not quick release/detachable - another pain for things like cleaning etc. Another downside is that bracket.

I might look into a Clearview Shields recurve with a vent. That vent makes a huge difference. Word of warning. Depending on the size you order, you need to discuss the shape of the shield with them. By default they'll send you an older shape design on their larger shields. If you want the same tombstone shape of the stock shield you have to ask for it.

As to the fangs. I've grown to like the looks of them on the Heritage. They look right at home on that style of bike. I've got the chrome deflectors from JESCustoms. They are quite a bit smaller than '17 and earlier HD deflectors, which might be a plus from a visual perspective - depending on taste.

The combination of deflectors and recurve shield with vent is really an effective combination in combating buffeting.

Once you figure it out/get used to it, getting it into neutral ceases to be a problem.

Yes. Various options. I chose their Half Moon passenger floorboards - Part Number 50810-08 - because they come with the inserts.

I’ve heard folks say that the buffeting is a problem with 2018 and newer due to HD switching to a slightly lower wind shield (cut costs? Or to appease folks of shorter stature complaining that they couldn’t look over the old one?). Folks with the buffeting problem are those in the 5’10” and taller. Simply going to a slightly taller shield helps for taller folks. If this is true, it would be nice if HD offered a trial system like they do for seats for allow folks to find a good fit for them.

Did you ride the subject bike and did it have the noise you are talking about. The M-8 engines produce a slight wine that is noticable when not being ridden (stopped in neutral). If it is from a tight belt, the dealer should be able to adjust it to minimise the noise. If it very loud, I would highly suggest you find another offering. It may the reason it is available in the first place.

i am looking at 114” with 3k miles 115 Anniversary edition for 14k. Bike comes with CD LED turns and rears, sissy bar and nice grips and mirror rest is stock. It is 2 tone blue/black.

Very Nice!!!!!!!

Rattling cap is no biggie got that an all my HD before XL and now 2014 Slim

i actually like stock bags hope I can make them work but heard these stock ones like to leak via lock - any fix on this one?

Crap shoot about water leakage with the OEM quality. More the problem is nothing fits in them unless it is soft and squishy, because of where the lock hasp is located. Transfer the LP Tour-bag from you current ride and add a set of LP saddle bags made for the '18 softails and you will be happy. Don't give it away to the dealer.

Also bit concern about buffeting as I dont like look of fangs so It will be great to hear on windshield solution only - curious here. Dig the look of 16” smoke look of after market option.

I did a 15" Freedom Recurve (clear top and blacked out bottom like stock) and it solved a lot of the buffeting but lots of us Heritage owners like the reduction the fangs also add.

neutral pita - looks like standard on all HD still

Definitely agree on suggested upgrades such as new seat (planning on Corbin based on my great experience) engine guard is must got in on mine too.

Does HD Offers floorboards now I read this was not available initially - if not some comments on solutions would be great to hear.

Yes, there are H-D and aftermarket Passenger Floor boards now available.

Tube in wheels - got it now not issue for me

Lay down plate would be nice this stock looks like ****.

CD and others make nice ones. A lay back tail light also looks better too.

Stock handlebar is big part of my consideration for upgrade as Slim has this bar way to forward to me and I like this of Heritage set up hope I dont have to install risers but read 4” tall one works without changes to cables. Any issues you guys experience with stock set up? Would be shame to upgrade and found same issue still not resolved

I'm short, but needed to add pull back risers to move the gips a little higher and back toward me. No wire or cable changes were necessary. I used a pivoting Riser. Much more comfortable for me.

Read bad things about stock tourpack which was also planned upgrade.

Like I said before, transfer the Tourbag from the current bike to the new one. The size is better for the Heritage than a large Tour-Pac.

My plan is to sell my bike to dealer at 8k as no freaking buyers exist in current markets beside low ballers and add 6k cash and get this ride. I read a lot of great reviews mainly on this post.

Is that good deal?

Probably not bad for 114 Anniversery model.
Here are pics of my Cherry:

Ain't she pretty?

Note the Tail light!

This bulletin mentioned all bikes manufactured before 10/2017 could be affected. Should I consider buying bike after this manufacturing date to avoid issues. Bike I consider will pass the warranty in 2-3 weeks so I wont have option to try this bike 😞 to verify if any issue exists.

Looks like I’ll be trading in the Snortster for a Heritage shortly after the first of the year. But in the meantime (been doing a LOT of research), I do have a few questions that I can’t seem to find searching here or on google.

1. Looking at the Vance & Hines Big Shot Staggered pipes, as they look great and from sound clips (whatever they are worth) sound good, but this leaves me a few more questions:
  • I see that they use a special bracket because of the bags. Is there any problem with fitting these pipes + saddlebag crashbars? Future passenger floorboards?
  • Quiet baffle vs. regular V&H baffle: how quiet is the quiet baffle compared to the stock HD pipes or even the SE Street Cannons? I have Rineharts on the Sporty now, and I like them, but wouldn’t mind a LITTLE quieter/lose some of the decel popping...but I do want to be louder/deeper than stock
  • Should I change on day 1, or wait until after break-in period?
2. Handlebars: Does anyone know the stock bar height? I will probably want a bit higher “mini-apes”, but not overly tall want to stay shoulder height or slightly below.

3. Mustache style crash bars. I like the looks, and the built in footrests are convenient, but how do they fare if I accidentally lay it down compared to the standard crash bars?

4. Finally (for now) does anyone have the dimensions inside the stock bags?

Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

Question about the sissy bar and backrest. I took the one off my 18 and it doesn't seem to fit the 20. Do I need new connectors on the bike? Not sure if my 18 had them or the dealer installed a bracket.

You have to buy a bike built after 5/22/19 to get the latest oil pump design.

This all depends on your upper torso/sitting height, seat height, and how you want to see ahead in relation to the windscreen. Most I'd guess prefer to look over the windscreen (I fall into this category). Clearview Shields has a page on their site that discusses measuring/getting the shield height right for the individual...

https://www.clearviewshields.com/abo...shield-height/

  1. On a level surface, place an object on the ground 50 feet in front of your bike.
  2. Sit on your bike in your normal riding position.
  3. Look at the object on the ground in front of the bike.
  4. The intersecting point where your eye line meets the object is the correct height of shield you are looking for.
Some may prefer looking through the shield.

Pros/Cons looking over shield:

  • You will look over the shield by 1”-2” so you have a Clearview of the road ahead.
  • The air will flow up, creating a nice pocket behind the shield.
  • When the shield gets wet or fogs, you still have a Clearview over the top.
Things to Consider:
  • Looking over the shield you will feel slightly more air than when looking through it, which may be an advantage in hot weather.
  • There is also a slight chance of high flying debris contacting the rider over the top of the shield, though smaller objects will be carried over the rider with the airflow.
Pros/Cons looking through the shield:

  • The rider and the passenger will have the quietest ride and the most protection.
  • You will have a Clearview through the shield.
  • The top edge of the shield will be 2”-3” above your line of sight.
Things to Consider:
  • When you are looking through the shield, it is more difficult to see in the rain or if the shield fogs. You can use Rain-X on our shields which will help keep it clear.
  • Also, in hot weather riding you do not have as much air flow. Our vent option helps if it is available in the shield you are looking at.
Once you get the windshield height correct, you may - or may not - have buffeting issues. In my case, my windshield is at the perfect height (for looking over the shield), but I have buffeting. So, I've had to take additional steps to deal with it. Turbulent air will come from two places. You get some coming up form the bottom of the shield, up around the sides of the tank, up your chest, and into your helmet from below. The fangs help with this. The other source is the turbulent air coming over the top of the shield. This is largely due to the vacuum/negative pressure zone created behind the shield. The vent I mentioned in the Clearview Shields relieves/equalizes the pressure and helps produce cleaner air that comes over the top of the shield. A recurve shield also helps by directing the air stream higher over the riders head.

One additional tip: Be sure to get any seating issues settled before you start playing with new windshield heights. Changing seats almost always effects your seating height and your sitting relationship with the windshield. Getting your seating issues sorted first can save you from having to repurchase another windshield.

touring M8 motors are rubber mounted and have ONE counter balancer, Softail M8 motors are solid mounted and have TWO counter balancer's, touring M8's have been prone to sumping. the Softail M8's do NOT appear to be prone to sumping, I have only seen ONE report of a softail M8 sumping and it was unsubstantiated.

Well my bike pulls to the left slightly in ya take your hands off. Belt is on the out side of the pulley no whoop whoop. New rear tomorrow and it better go down the road straight. Not losing time chasing it before that.
As far as speedo condensation i would like to know where the people are from, those that have this problem. I live in b.c. Canada out west ride in all weather from near freezing to 100 f. 5 above celeus to 38 above. Rain or shine. 35 years riding and never had one fog up. Could it be the humidity out east?
(Only good thing to come from the east is the road west) lol, sorry[/QUOTE]

So whats the deal with these new M8’s Heritages pulling to the left when we let it run without holding handlebars.

My 2014 Slim was straight like an arrow.
