Anyone figure out a good way to make the saddlebags detachable?
2019 heritage
I removed the Torx head bolts from my 2018 FLHCS and replaced them with hex head bolts. Pretty easy removal, comparatively. Less than 5 minutes. I leave mine on, however, removing them only for some rear wheel maintenance and deeper cleaning.
I'm the owner of a 2019 Heritage 114 and am loving it so far. I'm hoping to do some multi-day trips this summer and want to switch out to some forged wheels and run tubeless tires. I can't find any that are in the 16x3 size - would I have any trouble switching to 16x3.5? Would that fit without modification? Thanks in advance -

OTOH, and playing Devil's advocate, I've run laced wheels and tubes for 32 years and 275,000 miles and in all that time have had exactly ONE flat tire. that one happened from a defective tube that split on the way home from having a new tire installed at the shop. They must have had a bad batch, as they had two more tubes spit while trying to fix the tire.
Looking for a seat for my Heritage Softail. Actually the stock seat is OK, but...........Bought a Mustang seat with their adjustable Back rest. OK on the short trips up to 150-200 miles. The other Day road 650 miles in about 8 hours. Looking for something else. Sat on a new 2020 Road King yesterday, comfortable, reminded me of my '14 RK that I put an Electra Glide Classic seat on it, that was fantastic. What are the recommendations. My stock seat is a bit too close, would like it to be back a little bit with more back support. Any suggestions from the Gang.
Mustang Seat w/Backrest........................Can be bought at a reasonable price, perfect condition.

I prefer hex head bolts too. What size are they please?

I saw on this forum where somebody had put on a set of wheels from a Sportster Forty Eight with no issues. At least none were mentioned. Good luck and let us know what you go with.

Different bike, but after I drug a saddlebag on my 2010 Heritage down I-59 for about 10 miles, I decided that the convenience of detachable was overrated. But thats just me.
Thanks for the info - and the insight. I read a lot tube horror stories and it gets me a little concerned for longer trips as I'm not very mechanically inclined. Its good to get that perspective, especially given how spendy new wheels would be. Thanks again -

I make no recommendations and am only relating my own experience. The advantage of tubeless tires is that you can plug them on the bike and ride to a repair shop IF you have a plug kit and a means of inflating them.

3/8-16. Check length when you take out the original ones. I used stainless steel bolts. I ran a thread die onto them and ground a taper on the end for ease of alignment when reinstalling the bolts after a cleaning (etc). The die helps keep the threads straight. I never have trouble getting them out and back in.
