Default Remap question - Breakout

I have a 2018 107 breakout. When I purchased the bike I immediatley added a pair of slip-ons. Fast forward a few months and I changed the air cleaner for a standard 114 ventilator with the standard HD filter. Now, usually if you change the pipes and filter then you need a remap because you will get the bike popping on decelerations and will smell fuel etc with some dip in power. But I haven't had any of those issues with the M8. The bike runs better and sounds smoother, idles perfectly around 830/850 rpm. Feels like it's much smoother too and it definitely pulls like a train. Does anyone think I need to tune the bike with an FP3 or similar? It's too soon to check the state of my plugs, assume I would need to put at least a few hundred miles on the clock first.

Thanks

Sounds like no need for a tune. The bike will tell you when and if it needs one.

Thanks guys - Appreciate the response. Will leave it for now and check plugs in a few hundred or thousand miles (provided I get that amount of saddle time because of COVID lockdown).

Much Appreciated.

I have a 2019 SGS with the 114" and added Magnaflow Hitman slip-on's and a Harley K&N High Flow air cleaner. Using the FP3 suggested maps I get flat spots in the torque curve and light pinging at high throttle. I went back to the stock map and have none of those issues so I am running it stock until V&H comes up with a map that runs better I am sticking with stock. I may do a couple of auto tunes but it's running great as-is.

It's very odd and peculiar thing with the M8 engines. I was talking to someone from another forum and he mentioned the exact same issue after doing a stage 1. Our local HD no longer sell the SE tuner and recommend a direct download for your modifications. I don't like this idea because every time you change something it's back to HD for another download at a cost of Ł300.

I am wondering if the M8 engine and the ECU have improved tolerances and are able to adjust for such changes. Or are these so lean from the factory that adding a filter and pipes seems to put the motor in it's sweet spot........

A ECM strategy thats "lean from the factory" will not find a sweet spot with the addition of anything that allows for more airflow through the engine. There is the possibility that the bike will run better under certain loads, or at certain rpms, but i think that the overall running of the bike will be negatively affected. Now if you were talking about a bike running a bit rich from the factory, then I would say that the addition of more free flowing exhaust or air cleaner could have the bike finding its sweet spot. I will say this.... the addition of the air cleaner will probably most impact the higher rpm running as the factory air cleaner setups flow pretty well.

Even if the bike seems like it's running fine, there could be a slight temperature change that will cause wear at an advanced rate.

Get it tuned.
