Default Gas tank removal easy ???

I have the service manual to my 2020 Sport Glide . I was just looking on how to remove the gast tank, the manual makes it look like a all day job. I have been told it's so easy. One time my dealer had to take mine off on a recall to mack sure the brake line was OK, it was. I stood right there talking to the service manager the entire time, next thing I knew the guy was picking my tank up from a.bench and reinstalling it. I couldn't believe how fast he did it. Was all over in under 15 minutes . He did it so fast I don't remember how he did it. My new service manual scares the hell out of me.
No way the dealer did all the things the manual says I got to do . Has anyone on here taken yours off and didn't find it hard ?

I haven’t tried yet. The service manual makes it sound like brain surgery.

Obviously, there are several steps to remove the tank, but just be sure to do “The Purge”.

Removed and installed mine (without looking at the service manual), 15 minutes sounds about right, <10 even if you have all the tools right there and know what your doing/looking for.

Just had a look at the section in the manual… I did all the steps except drain the fuel tank and remove/install the console. 10-15 minutes. More if you need to drain the fuel and remove the console.

I have never done "The Purge"

I just wrap a rag around the quick disconnect to catch any small squirt of fuel and then disconnect.

That’s awesome. Any other procedures in the service manual you don’t follow? Please do share!

Haven't done it on the Softail yet, but did it plenty of times on Street Glides, Road Glides, Road Kings and it is super simple.
1) Remove the seat (1 bolt)
2) Disconnect fuel line at the quick disconnect (schrader?) valve *It is recommended to purge the fuel line, but you don't "have" to, just wrap a rag around the fitting to catch the spurt when removing and reinstalling.
3) Remove dash console (3 bolts and a couple electrical connections under the console) *Depending on what you're doing you can skip this step - if all you're doing is just getting the tank out of the way (sliding it down toward the seat area) you should be fine to leave the console on.
4) Remove the tank bolts (2 bolts - 1 rear, 1 front)
5) Lift front of tank slightly to remove vent hose from underneath
6) Depending on model look for any electrical connectors that need to be disconnected
7) Remove tank

In reality, even doing the purge should only add about 10 seconds to the total time. Also, depending on what you're doing recommend removing the main fuse which again is simple and quick.

Ive been watching videos. You got it right. 1 bad thing on the new Softails the ges pump connector is up under the tank. Got to pic it up about 8" in the rear to get to it. I think I will set it on wood shims to hold it up to un plug it. Then purge it. The service manual has 3 pages on it, and it jumps back and forth 🙄
