Just purchased a used 2018 Heritage and went for the first gas fill up to find this. Pic included. Here in California you need to create a seal to pump the gas. I could not get the nozzle past or around this wire in the tank. Never seen this before in a tank. Any clue to what it is or what is shouldn't be doing there? No luck on getting the pump to work with this in there. First post back on here after a long time it's been helpful. Thanks.

I have that in my tank as well , no idea whats the purpose is ,
No idea what that is, what it’s for, never seen anything like it.
But, with those pumps, just pull the rubber seal part of the pump nozzle back with one hand and pull the trigger with the other. The pump isn’t actually sensing a seal, just the position of that part, just pull it back about a half inch, maybe a bit more.
Thanks for the advice there. It's a head scratcher what the purpose of it is or if it's just for California bikes. Good to know about the pumps, I was always thinking it's a seal, good to hear it isn't. I'll give that a try today. The other thing I'm thinking it may prevent the nozzle from shutting off too soon when the gas tank level fills. Maybe letting you get more gas in the tank?
No idea what that is but just snapped a pic of my 2020 Fat Bob tank and NO WIRE in mine just a full tank of gas. I'm also in California and do have to pull back the the rubber neck on the pump handle to fill. Same with my KTMs as the neck of the filler handle will not go into the tank deep enough to move back the rubber neck. Can you reach in there with long nose pliers to see if it seems ridged??
