Auto Meter Tach
Hey Guys, gals, I would love to mount an Auto meter tach to a 2018 Fat Boy handlebar. Does anybody know if its possible to do this? Back in the day you could just hook one wire to your coil and the other to ground , but I got a feeling this is to good to be true. Help.

To the best of my knowledge it's still the same, however, unlike the old days when Harley had one coil for both cylinders, they now have one coil for each cylinder, so you'll need a tach that can do a single cylinder engine, because you'll only be connecting to one coil. You could connect to both coils and set for a twin, but you would need a couple of diodes to ensure the coils remain electrically isolated.

My autometer on my El Camino is digital and I imagine that you have a CANBUS on your 12 or 14 that you have to figure out how to hook up to you ECM. Look up the wiring of the tach and see if it uses a digital signal. Look at a wiring diagram and see if there is a manual coil to tach signal. You are in a bridge area that you may not be able to cross.

Thanks for the reply guys. I want a tach you can see under acceleration mounted on the handlebars. I can't look down at the digital one from the factory. I built the crap out of a 128 and hell it's all I can do to hold on at W.O.T. . Lol I will give Auto Meter a call.
