Default Mid Control Shift Shaft Oil Leak

Just curious how many others have had issues with the gasket failing at the Mid Control Shift Shaft gasket location ?
was out for a little ride over the weekend, about 80 miles from the house and noticed my left side was WET with oil. I notice the shift shaft hole was leaking oil, my guess as well as other techs have only mentioned that gasket must have failed and the slinging oil is being sprayed right at the area while riding.

just curious, as i have always wanted to swap primary covers to the Forward Control gloss black cases. I have a FXLRS swapped to forwards, and have never liked having that plug anyway.

so, let me update this for the few that have swapped to forwards on any bike most likely....
i pulled the outer cover to find the stand gasket for the shaft had shifted slightly...allowing the leak to place.

my idea to create a fix, short of an 800$ case swap (new parts price)...is to take a piece of delrin or teflon round stock and machine it to a .490" dia...then insert through the case enough to stay centered up through the shaft hole, and reinstall the push on cover. this will help keep the gasket centered and not have the new shaft tear up the case finishes.

i really want to machine it for an o-ring, but don't want to fool with pulling the inner cove too.

I went to forwards and have no leaks. Why not just slap some permatex gasket on it and be done?

I wish I could find a good hole plug of some sort because so far I have found none. TC Bros has one for their kit, but not seperate.

i very easily could, just dont care for possibly having excess get inside the case. I really thought it had an O-ring gasket and was surprised that it even started leaking.

Just another side effect of high power and vibration. i just end a triple digit blast across most of Lake Ponchartrain.

Nice 😁

Yes, I was slightly suprised nothing really there. I had to take my cover off when the jam nut for the clutch cable came off. But even removing and reinstalling the cover I'm still good. I sort of thought maybe the post/tube is a thou or two more so tightening down cover gets that. What ever is leaking, it can't take much.

Is the post still there for the "forward" cover. Meaning a post to keep the cover held in place, but on the mid control version the post is drilled out. Just curious if you change front cover is the a hole on the backside cover? Hopefully that makes sense...

you could always machine an o-ring groove in the outter cover and leave the inner flat. surprised they never did that from the start. would be much better.

you have to swap both covers to eliminate the hole, my pic is of the inside inner cover.

that is something i am looking at having done, i want new cases, just dont want blow 800$ for that, and not sure i want scuffed up used ones.

i think for the quick fix, i am going to fab a dowl that i can insert behind the cover, just to keep the gasket from walking again. when i do the 128 buildup, i will get it machined or most likely replace the covers then.

i want to be on the road thursday to finish out Daytona.
