I used to have one on my fat boy and replaced it because it doesnt have an external preload adjustor and mine's adjustor ring was an absolute nightmare to adjust.
It was a good shock, definitely better than stock, but I wouldnt buy anything that's not easily adjustable anymore.
Were running the 12.5 on my wifes 2018 Softail Slim. It rides better than stock. I mainly bought it as a cheap upgrade off of eBay for $460 new. Couldnt pass it up for the price. Id personally go with a 13 but my wife is height challenged and needs all she can get to touch the ground. Weve never had to mess with the settings since shes a solo rider. Straight out of the box it didnt need adjusting for her.
I run the fox13.5 with Olin’s cartridge up front. Tubes down in the trees for a great ride with great lean angle. I set preload at install and find no need to adjust. Rebound setting is easy access.
Hmmm, I don’t have nor have I ridden on the Fox Shock…. But I do have the tall Heritage shock on my FXLRS. I can tell you this it soaks up the bumps like a marshmallow and ride’s silky smooth over Louisiana’s plentiful expansions joints and we have plenty to go around. I doubt anyone can feel the difference between the two for ride quality.
The tall Heritage shock can be scooped up for tons less money than anything aftermarket I got the deal of the century on mine but they can be had for very low dough, so don’t overlook them just because they are a factory part.
The Fox QSR works great on the Lowrider S way better than stock for cornering and bumps. Some say it rides a bit firm if you're used to super plush shocks, but the adjustability helps dial it in. No clearance issues, easy install. Worth it if you push the bike hard.

Yes, they can, easily, without doubt. There is nothing HD is putting on anything non CVO worth a crap. It's not about a spring, it's about the damping controlling the spring. HD uses the rudest they can get away with.
I have the LRST tall shock. It's yours for $50. That's what it's worth. My Ohlins is night and day above it. I have always like and ran Fox stuff. I have zero issue with them, looked at them hard, but they don't seem to dedicate much effort to cruisers. If you can get them, run them. They will be much better. But for me, there was not much cost difference. That's just me. I didn't have any problem with the thought of running Fox.

Well Im happy your happy, Im passing on what others have passed on that I trust. I few have changed shocks like underwear in there quest, at the end of the day there statement was the buy in just wasn't worth it for any marginal improvement/benefit over the long shock. Im not saying the tall shock is the end all be all, I can't as I've only used the stocker and upgraded into the longer stocker. I'm very happy and more so that I didn't spend a pile of dough too find out, I guess my ignorance is bliss..
A taller shock should generally feel better than a shorter shock. The advantage of the nicer aftermarket shocks is the adjustability. I think a lot of people don't properly set-up their aftermarket shocks. Setting the sag and dialing in the rebound etc is critical.
I think the tall HD shock is a big improvement over the shorter one found on the Street Bob etc. My LRST rides night and day better than my Street Bob did. Both stock suspension. That' said, if Pro Action offered a Softail shock they would have my money that day. Best shock I ever had.
