Default FM loss with Class D amp

Is the FM reception loss with Class D amps limited to the HK stock head unit? Meaning... if I replace the head unit with an aftermarket will I get FM reception back?

I ran a class D 4 channel Precision Power amp with a Sony HU and didn't lose any FM.

I lost “some” with Sony HU and Power Acoustik.

Now....I had a cheap 8.99 antenna in the fairing from AutoZone and I had the power line running next to the antenna plug and still could grab a few stations. My guess is if I run the power on the opposite side and perhaps a boosted antenna and I would be fine.

I lost no reception with the HK and RF PBR.

I will standby and watch what others say, but I think it is a hit or miss with this one. To answer question. Head unit does not matter, from what I have read to date.

Nope - It's the switching circuits in the class D. HU doesn't matter.

So is it proximity of the amp to the head unit that is the issue? Would mounting the amp in the rear solve it?

Sorry, I'm a dummy when it comes to this stuff.

you'll have better luck making sure your power and ground wires are run on the opposite side of the wiring tray away from your antenna wire. Aside from that, it really doesn't matter where you physically place the amp. I've had some in saddlebags and lost reception and then again I've had some installed right on top of the head unit and had no effect on FM reception. It truly is a hit or miss kinda thing.

I didn't lose any FM reception with my SS. Although, I could care less if I lose FM since I use my iPhone.

I've had both the SS520 and the PA2000D behind a Sony head unit and both killed FM reception.
