Default 2014 Electra Glide Ultra

Ok, so I have spent the last two weeks going through all the threads I could find on the 2014 Rushmore bikes. And, like some others, have gotten myself completely confused.

I also have a 2009 Ultra Classic, which I replaced with Hawg Wired amps and speakers front and rear. Love it, sounds awesome.

Was going to do my 2014 Ultra with a similar set up but it seems that reviews are not very favorable for Hawg Wired for the Rushmore's. I called to speak with them and they seem to not be interested in helping anyone with a 2014.

Been looking at the Biketronics stuff the last few nights. Seems a little pricey, but is it worth it?? What I am not seeing is a complete system that is completely plug and play and includes the front fairing speakers and rear pod speakers and one or two amps??

Many on here seem to be talking about basically just doing the fairing speakers and an amp.

Any help or suggestions on a full four speaker system and one amp to drive the front and rear speakers?? Would really like it to be plug and play please.

Also confused about needing a "Magic Box" with the new speakers and amp setup or it is just a "flash" from the dealer???

Are there some very awesome sounding packages that can be pieced together at a reasonable price?? What are they and where can they be found.

Or do I need to go back and look at a Biketronics type of set up???

Thanks for any help!!!

Hi,

If you want to give me a call I can go over everything we know on the 2014 audio, no pressure. I am a tech guy and try to give the customer the info needed to make an informed decision based on his situation, not tell them what to buy. I hate high pressure sales.

hehe.. and if you want to spend a couple of hours on the phone with BT, call Robin..

Bill is like me.. tell me what you want, i'll tell you the best way to get there within your budget and your expected outcome and then off the phone.

Robin on the other hand; tell him what you want and he'll go through the theory of relativity, then onto Basic Waves Theory, then just when you think your brain is on overload, onto Spacial Audio Reproduction. You'll be so happy to get off the phone with him, you'll buy an entire audio package to do so even if you don't own a bike.

Smart guy though, that Robin.

hmm.. that's interesting. they're likely just lagging behind in production of the products for 14 and up models.

I will always tell people to buy what you can afford to buy. If you can afford to go a full BT system, you will NOT be dissapointed.

the setups that BT (and others) offers are 100% plug n play with the exception of running your wires to the battery for power and ground. I'm not sure if BT is or isn't recommending running the ground wire directly to the battery but I highly recommend you do so to eliminate any issues.

The problem comes in with the rear pods because HD redesigned those and moved the passenger controls a little higher in the pod making the replacement of those speakers limited. IMO, I would go the route of the full BT kit for front with 4180 amp, and a pair of Infinity Kappa 62.11i for the rear pods that is unless BT has come up with a way to get their Titan II 6.5" in those stock pods. That will more than satisfy your needs.

Run from this notion. Go to the dealer and get the appropriate flash. The "magic box" doesn't work as advertised.

there are lots of aftermarket options but if you're wanting something plug n play you'll be better off with one of the more well known motorcycle audio setups. If you want to go aftermarket, plenty of help can be obtained here to assist you throughout you install.

Thanks guys! I got called out of town for two days on an emergency repair and just got back home.

Bill at BT, I will give you a call sometime next week.

Ultra, I had a feeling that you would be the one to be able to sort through all my questions and give me the detailed answers I was trying to find.

I will most likely end up with the BT 4180 set up with the other speakers in the rear pods. Thank you for a clear cut answer on the MagicBox.

Just bought a complete BT set up from Bill. I went with the 7.1 pros in the front, the 4180 amp and the 6.5 Titian ll in the rear pods. I bought these two pieces from vtwin audio to help with the install and to get the Titians in the rear pods. I have been so busy That I haven't even started on it yet but can't wait to hear it.

And he was gonna try and build his own harness from the wire code chart that Ultra was giving him. Ultra even thought he was overly eager to tackle that project. Can't remember where I read that thread. . . . . . .

BigBoyRide, thanks for the heads up on the wiring harness. I wanted plug and play as I'm swamped with work in my business and just don't have the time I want to take to do this upgrade.

I was thinking about following Ultra's advice on the Infinity Kappa speakers as he said that would fit without modifications.

I was wondering about an upgraded harness to carry the power of the amp to the rear speakers and I guess that is why you would need this harness??

I would love to see pictures of your install, especially the finished product on the tour pack pods with the speakers installed and the VT spacers and grills installed.

Thanks. Keep it coming, this is clearing tons of questions up for me.
