Default Direct replacement speakers

Guys, I am sure it has been asked and answered, I did a search on direct replacements but did not find what I was looking for.
I have a 2013 FLHTCU and we all know the stereo is less than stellar. After sinking a ton of cash into on other upgrades, I would like to, at the very least, pick up some direct replacement speakers that sound better. I can't afford to replace the entire stereo this year but would like to start upgrading.
Are there any speakers that would fit the bill or do I wait till I can afford the whole thing? That being said what would the cost be for a half decent system?
Thanks in advance.

Honestly man without an amp even better speakers won't make much of difference once you hit the road. There just isn't enough juice coming from the headunit. Best bang for your buck speakers are the Infinity 62.11i for about 140.00 bucks. These are 6.5 inch speakers so you'll need adaptors for them about 25.00. A good amp is the RZ4.2000D for about 100 bucks a better one is the big brother RZ4.3000D - 150.00. Rear speakers that drop right in are the Kickers KSC67 - 100.00 and the amp will require a wiring kit - 15.00.

So you're looking at around the 400-450 ball park for something that will completely blow your stock system away.....on a budget. Now be warned the majority of the amps that can be used on our bikes will cause you to lose all or some FM reception. There's a few work arounds but it's common. On that budget with those components you will do some damage. A top of the line Biketronics set-up, for example, is about 1000.00 but you'll never upgrade again and it comes with a lifetime warranty.

Yep... There are no direct replacement speakers that are going to sound better than the ones you already have without an amp. For good sound on a bike an amp is a must have. You could buy $800 focal speakers and they wouldn't sound good going down the road without an amp. That said. its better to wait until you can purchase the speakers and an amp. But as HAZE said the amp doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg. You can get a great amp for $110 bucks.

Thanks, thought it would cost more, think I will just wait till after riding season and do the whole thing. Would like to get a system that is compatible with the handlebar controls.
Could that be accomplished for the same $1000 neighbourhood?

by compatible you mean new headunit/radio?

With 1000.00 bucks you could do it all. Nice amp, top of the line speakers, good radio, etc.

Haze and Gann are correct...listen to them! I did the Biketronics system in the spring....man it rocks! Could not be happier!
