Grabbed an 09 ultra this summer. Tunes were ok with stock exhaust and tour pack. However, after adding the quick detach and pipe the lonely fairing speakers are mostly just distortion.
Pulling the outer fairing revealed a hogtunes 24.2 amp and 1st gen speakers. Still a factory head unit.
I was going to pick up the 7" hogtunes lower fairing kit, but I'm not to impressed with these fairing speakers. Nor have I seen them mentioned while searching this forum.
Is there a better alternative?
Leave these alone, add 2nd amp and lowers or ditch it all?
I'd like to keep this budget friendly. Don't really need anything over the top. I have alot of other things it needs first, but I want to hear the radio at least.
IT NEVER ENDS!!! But seriously for simply adding some volume, you will want a respectable amp and a good set of 6.5 speakers. I and many others here are running the lowers with another good set of 6.5s. Choices are endless and budget plays a huge part. If you can let us know what your budget is and what your ultimate goal is, we can make some recommendations. Most of us are on upgrade #2 or 3 and have learned a lot the hard way so we will do our best to try to get ya a 1 and done idea or two. Let the madness begin

Yeah, what Kris said. What's your budget? How loud does it have to be? I'm on my 4th amp and have been through several sets of speakers. My current rig is way more than needed, but you can't have too much, right? Something to consider though...if you use a class D amp there is a likelihood that you will loose FM reception making your only input sources using your stock head unit your CD player or your aux in jack. Most aftermarket head units now days have Bluetooth which I would strongly encourage. A few amps are class A, like the PBR 300x2, and retain FM.

I don't need melt your face. I just want a clear sound over the pipes. The 4 speakers and stock pipes were ok for reference.
I listen to the radio prob 60% of the time. Cd the rest. However I'm working on making a phone mount to use my navigation and maybe pandora. I don't have an ipod or anything.
Budget I would say less than 500 right now. I have alot of maintenence that needs done now. I don't really mind doing stages, if I can get 1 component at a time.
I haven't used the tour pak much after removal, so not to worried about it.
I'd like to if possible start with lower fairing speakers, and a good amp. If budget allows upgrade the main speakers. Maybe move these hogtunes to the tour pak, for no more than I'm using it.
If you could help me find an end plan, I'll just keep adding components until the budget is done or its loud enough.
