Let me chime in as a guy who ran the SS PN1000 amp and a full DD setup last season.
The amp? OK if on a budget, not great for quality. It trips distortion at 1/3 gain so be prepared for a loss of sq and danger to the speakers beyond that. Granted that amp has never let me down and a lot of power for the $$$, but in my current system it's the weakest link.
DD VOs and B3 horns? Awesome with one thing lacking in my opinion, upper end of the audio spectrum. There's a crispness that's lacking, noticeable switching from the 602's. Switching my fairing speakers this year, but keeping all DD in my bags for the spl.
Best price on 602s? Shop around, they cost a lot less than retail.

Having said that. I had the DD's for a while and with a quality amp they get VERY loud, but with any PA speaker you're not gonna have the same low end thump or warmness from a good coaxial. I will say that with the 1000D coaxial tend to sound better.
The DD's sound a lot better with a better quality amp. Now, not sure why you are discouraged the 1/3 gains. A lot of that is dependent on the input source and matching the input signal with the gain output signal. Then there's lower or higher input voltage sources will cause the gain setting to go up and down.

You answered my question from the other thread LOL. I understand, mine has the warmth and thump from two DD VO8's in the bags so I'm not lacking in that area.
