Infinity Kappa Install Warning
Hi All, I think I've seen someone mention this before on the forums but I just wanted to pass along the information so someone else didn't make the same mistake as me. I recently installed a set of Kappa 62.11is in the fairing (2016 SGS) using the pod mod talked about here to mount them internally. I took them apart, shaved down the posts so they would mount flush and bolted them back together. I used the stock speaker mounting screws to mount the Kappas from the inside of the pod making sure not to over tighten anything. Jump ahead and I recently purchased a BT set up which should be here any day so I decided to get a head start removing everything so I could simply bolt everything up and install the new speakers. When I opened up the pods to remove the Kappas I noticed that on one of the speakers the plastic frame had cracked around the screws. I was actually pretty surprised to see how brittle the plastic was... I'm not sure if it's because I used the stock mounting screws or what but they were only on for about 3 days and about 100 miles total. Like I said, I believe I've read about people warning against mounting the speakers from the back like that. I know a lot of people have done it successfully with no problems but I figured I'd let people know that it could and did happen to me. Sorry I didn't take any pictures, I've already taken them back to the store to get my money back...
For what it's worth, I still like the Kappas a lot, I'd just be careful mounting them that way. Perhaps some of the guys here with more experience could tell me what I did wrong or give advice to those looking to do the same install in the future. Thanks!

You didn't do anything wrong really. The frame of the kappas being like it is with thin plastic and the weight of the magnet is what caused that issue. The speaker wasn't actually designed to be mounted that way so the mounting ring isn't really reinforced to hold the weight in that way.

I didn't know anything about this, even about the internal mounting, so thank you. Is there anything that could be done to support the frame, or is the best bet to mount them outside of the pod?

No, don't mount the Kappa's to the outside of the Rushmore batwing pods or they will look like this in no time.

Is this when mounting them inside the pods?
Yes on the back of the mounting ring. it helps to reinforce the ring in the plastic frame speakers
