I have had fatboys all my life but yesterday bought a 2015 electra glide ultra limited and im new to the thing.
1) Im pretty sure one of the rear speakers is blown, makes that classic rattling sound with base. I find the front speakers sound great. What should i replace the rears with and besides plug and playing the speakers do i need to do anything else? As it is seems fairly loud even at highway speeds.
2) I setup my bluetooth with my iphone and i noticed you could have it read text messages. Thought this might be a good feature if someone had to tell me something urgently. Anyway, when i went to that screen to enable it the "enable SMS" box was greyed out entirely. Couldnt click it. Ideas?
If you find the stock speakers great sounding, consider jumping on the local craigslist and searching for a stock speaker. There has to be hundreds of them out there and if you don't find any, it's the same reason people don't list a stock HD exhaust...everyone has at least one in their garage. You'll be able to track down a stock pod speaker for next to nothing. Throw it in there, turn the bass down a little bit and see how you like it. If it's acceptable to you, you've fixed the issue for under $20.
I've had an iPhone and Rushmore since 2014 and I've never gotten the SMS to work. Seems to me that every thread I've read on this topic ends the same way.."it doesn't work for iPhone" I tell people if they have something important to tell me to pick up the phone and call me. Their name will pop up on caller ID and I can pull over when it's safe and call them back. Reading texts on a bike seems medium unsafe to me. The whole point of me being out on a bike is to get away from all that crap.
The SMS feature works fine. All it will do is read you the message. You can see the message if you are stopped. If you have an Android phone, you can set it up for an autoreply to say whatever you want if you receive a text while on the bike.
i can't help you with the sms question as i have an android.
I do however have a stock rushmore fairing speaker i just removed a couple weeks ago that works just fine. PM me if you're interested, no charge for the speaker.
