I'm trying to install these speakers in my 2012 Ultra. I'm told they have great sound. I struggled with the four wires on the back of my stock speakers. I finally determined that two of the wires were for a separate built in tweeter on the stock speakers. I know where the wires are supposed to attach now, but...
The JL Audio speakers come with separate tweeters. The instruction manual suggests flush or surface mounting. One method involves cutting two big holes in my inner fairing, the other drilling 6 smaller holes.
Has anyone installed this type of speaker? Is there a third method I'm not aware of that is better?
3rd -- mount the tweeters on your grills. You'll want to use Hogtunes or Hawgwired metal grills
4th - drop two gauges and put them in those holes!
You'll want to use a small amp with those speakers if you really want an upgrade in sound. Your stock speakers are 2ohm and get more power from your HU. At 4ohm these may sound clearer parked but you will likely lose volume on the road.
