Vague title I know, so a little background. '07 RG, had previously installed WDX6MOTOS in fairing running on a Massive BLX-44 bridged, everything was working very well for @ a year with no issues. Recently added lowers with a pair of Hertz SV 165s running on a CV B52. Had it all up and running, broke in the SVs for a few hrs, buttoned it all up and took it out for a 30 mile shakedown cruise at max volume (3/4 vol on HU) and all was well. Bike sat for 2 days, I went out to take a ride this morning, turned on the bike, paired up the phone and...nothing. Not even the very low level hum of the amps being on. Pulled the seat with fingers crossed to check the inline fuse after 1st disconnecting the battery and, fortunately or unfortunately, it's fine. Scratch my head, dreading tearing down the bike again to look under the hood with my extremely minimal electrical diagnostic skills. Decided to just reconnect the battery to see if it'll magically heal itself and voila! Tunes are working again! Now I'm wondering WTF? Is this going to keep happening? What's going on here? Are amps going into protect mode? Fairing setup is unchanged except for running a new power and ground to a distribution block. Why wasn't it working like before? What knocked everything out and then why did it all start working again after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery? I'm clueless, and hoping some of you more experienced people here can enlighten me, and maybe other novices that may experience this type of problem.
Thanks for the replies. Battery is 1 year old and had enough juice to fire the bike up when the amps weren't working, and enough to power the amps after the reconnect.
The amps are connected in one way though. I ran a 3.5 mm to speaker wire connector from the line out port of the Massive amp to the CV. Maybe the Massive went into protect mode and took out the signal to the CV via the line out?. Weird if that's the case because the tunes we're playing at medium low volume when I pulled into the garage last time I rode it. Baffling, and I'll definitely be monitoring it as I hate riding without my tunes. Hopefully it was a one-time thing, but time will tell. Taking it out for another ride now. Fingers crossed.
Figured it out. You guys were right. Negative bolt into the battery was slightly cross threaded. Bolt felt tight when I checked it, but negative line to amps was loose underneath. Only found it because I was a dumbass and left the switch in accessory and ran the battery dead overnight. Jumper cables revealed the culprit. Thanks again for the help.
