Whim or no Whim???
Been reading all the mixed reviews and problems people experienced in setting up a Whim/Sena system on their bikes. Mostly bad reviews.
Major issue or stumbling block for me is that I want "stereo" music in my headset as I ride, which means I'm limited to the HD branded Sena unit along with whim. Great ad campaign, poor user reviews. Yuck!
In thinking about it, I use the Boom pretty much for music alone. I usually don't use the turn by turn nav features, just follow the highlighted route on the nav screen.
I like and use the phone connectivity to make and answer calls. Nice.
I use rider/passenger and bike to bike com.
So, why do I really need whim? If it all worked as easily and simply as advertised, it would be a seamless and no brainer way to go. But, and it's a big but, apparently that's not the case. So many dissatisfied users out there. Is it a case of not being able to please everyone, or is it a system that's fraught with glitches, bugs and limitations?
It's a lot of money to just experiment with. It's a major commitment.
So, what about getting something like a cardo system which would give me all the music, phone, and com features I want and use and either to hell with the Boom! Infotainment or just use the screen for the nav?
I mean, if you want music, phone, com, and nav, tell me what is it that my phone wouldn't supply?
I could google maps for nav, Amazon music for sound, and I have bike to bike as well as passenger com.
The cardo is highly rated, weather resistant, easy to use. Waaay cheaper than using whim/sena.

The biggest decision is whether you want a wireless set up or can live using wired headsets. If you have a model that comes with the headset DIN connector as oem, there is little incentive to install WHIM & purchase BT headsets.
SG & SGS models don't have a DIN headset installed, so therein comes the real decision point:
- add wired headset w/installation of DIN headset connector, or
- add WHIM internal to the fairing & purchase BT headset(s)
Option 1 requires purchasing the DIN connector & wiring. This can be done using this or ordering oem parts from a model that has the connector installed from the factory. Next, select/purchase a rider wired headset. Then comes the question of the passenger headset: ready to add tour pack & speaker modules? If not, you'll need to be creative & build your own passenger interface (connector & switches).
At this point, the WHIM/BT option becomes an easier choice.
Does this explanation help?
Thanks for your reply.
Sorry 'bout the limited info. I should figure out how to add to my profile so as to include details about my bike. I own a 2016 Triglide with 6.5 GT installed.
And ya, I'm now questioning my reasoning for wanting to go BT vs wire.
I cannot find any discussion concerning what's the motivation to upgrade from GT to GTS.
Since I Upgraded my speakers and amp, I listen to my speakers and dont use the WHIM, unless I use the CB and I then will either use the Sena or just use the Sena Microphone and listen to my speakers..
Hard to argue against.
Thanks Hammz.
Can anyone tell me (I can't find a good article) what's the deal in upgrading to GTS vs staying with GT?
Thanks people!

So that I can easily use the phone, I had a USB plus inserted from the front of the bike to the trunk Now, I can use either my phone of my wife's phone to connect to Android Auto. In addition, I have access to Amazon music and XM radio.
A few more things were added today - purchased the extra fob for my 2021 plus, had a Kuyarkin 9673 brake pedal installed. It allows me to hit the rear break without taking my foot off of the floorboards. I have one of those on my 2014 and it really made a difference.
As you might imagne, I am ready to start riding - been cooped up way to long
