The multi tools do a pretty good job

I have both but never thought about the multi-tool. I have the half-moon disc I used on a tile job so I may give that a try.
Did any of you guys go back over them with DynaMat or the llike?

Yes cover the hole with dynamat. Before you peel the backing off, hold it over the hole and from the inside of the pod, trace around the hole on the paper. Leave that part of the paper on the dynamat so that it doesn't stick to your speaker.
