HDHU.14 ride report

head unit shipped with:
MCU: HDHU-14-211215
SOC: HDHU.14-211123-14:30
I went to https://motorcycleaudio.com/product/hdhu-14/ and downloaded
Firmware Update HDHU.14 (v012122)
and followed the readme. It’s pretty straight forward.
using a FAT32 formatted 2GB flashdrive (and even ExFAT formatted), I copied the 2 unzipped files over from my Mac. NTFS or macOS can’t be read by the HU it said.
update
ISPBOOOT.BIN
pressed update twice and at 50% the head unit blacks out and the icons continue to colour cycle….
The unit NEVER reboots!
I’ve tried minutes even up to an hour and still the colours cycle but a black screen.
I’ve since tried 2 branded flash drives (32GB SanDisk / 8GB Kingston) and same result
and even using Windows 10 to format the flash drives and copy the files. Same failed result
interestingly I thought the BIN file might have a spelling mistake in its name and tried changing it to ISPBOOT (two O) .bin
The unit got to 50% and this time successfully rebooted, but it didnt update the SOC
So it looks to be the BIN file is the fault (meant to update the SOC)
waiting on a reply from support
What was different in your file structure? Can you screen shot it and post please?
also what format USB and what OS did you format with?
…TIA
I took the following steps to get the update to upload correctly. I reformatted my USB and then unzipped the update using a Windows OS this time and not my Mac OS. I don't know if that makes a difference but the file structure was a little different. Was it different enough to affect the upload, maybe. Soundstream said they will look into this to see if they can determine if it is a potential issue. I was also doing the upload in "Ignition" and not "ACC" so I switched to "ACC", this too SS will be investigating but said it shouldn't matter.
There is still a little tick/noise when changing volume or pressing the buttons to change the inputs/settings but they said that is normal and still present in some devices and are still working on eliminating it. I guess there are some more updates coming over the next few weeks. They also recommend to make sure the gains are set correctly after adding the new HU which I planned on doing anyway. This should help minimize it.
However, there is no longer any constant ticking noise/interference when playing music or radio and all the functionality is there. I look forward to finally riding.
Thanks for everyone's feedback to help troubleshoot. Maybe some of what I provided above will help anyone having an issue with the update. Also, the update is quick, less than 5 minutes.

They have been having issues with Apple products and the upgrade. If you can use a windows program there hasnt been any issue updating with the windows OS

I'm an Apple tec by trade but I speak fluent Windows as a second language, so stuck with the rule of thumb of using a FAT32 drive created on a Windows OS
I tried FAT32, ExFat, NTFS and macOS flash drives. the first two have the same effect in that they don't reboot the HU.
NTFS and macOS wont read at all.
I even renamed the drive to the same as Volunteer Audios YouTube and researched the default format that Philips use on their flash drives...no dice
(BTW he uses a Mac in the update video posted on both VA and SoundstreamUSA tubes)
32GB SanDisk should have been fine but I'll go 64GB (can try 128GB but VA said to keep them smaller in size). The files are tiny
the only way I got a different effect was to rename the ISPBOOOT.BIN file and then the unit rebooted and didn't even try and complete the SOC update.
'cause I can try an older Windows OS (I only used Win10)
would like to know what format your flash drive is? FAT32/ExFat/NTFS
*footnote: just tried Win7 and FAT32, same no reboot

Which wireless CarPlay dongle do you use, I have been guessing at which one I need to get for a month now?
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
couple stupid quick questions about that....
*does the dongle fit in the usb pocket or do you have to stuff it in the fairing?
*does it pair quickly for CarPlay?
*do you think your phone would connect from the tour pack?
