Question 03 electra glide classic

bought the bike used 15 months ago, noticed pretty soon that the rear speakers were way louder than the front, can just barley hear the front speakers while the back speakers jam.
a couple weeks ago I noticed a amp hid under my tour pack. looked the part # up and Harley called it a sidecar amp.
Ive read every thread in this audio section and now am completly confused as to where to go next.
don't want to spend a ton of money, don't have the patience I used to have.
Mainly listen to classic rock.
thought about leaving the rear alone and putting an amp and new speakers in the front or just better speakers up front. not even sure which size would fit.
Im not an audio guy so looking for ideas where to go from here.
Thanks in advance.
Randy

i think what you may have here is a mismatched set of speakers. The rears should not be anywhere near the volume of the fronts (unless you're sitting still). Have you pulled your fairing cap off to see what's in there now? What about the rears.. are they something other than stock speakers? That would give us some info to go on from there..

checked out the speakers, no writing or info on fronts or rears but there the same 5 1/4.
the amp is part # 76218-98, I'm sure its just hooked up to the rear speakers, when I turned down the rears so I could hear the front speakers, I couldn't hear crap at highway speed till I turned the rears back up.
probally gonna do your mix of the ss amp and polk db speakers, not sure about rear set up yet. any advice would be great. I don't understand bridging or some of the terms you gentlemen with knowledge use but I keep reading and getting a little more educated.
Thanks
Randy

Randy,

The amp was part of an accessory HD sold for use on '05 and older models-since discontinued. It was sold to use with a four speaker, front/rear configuration; not just to power rear speakers.

Have you traced the wiring from the amp harness forward? If you remove the outer fairing and check the wires connected to the front speakers, you'll probably find they are part of a harness going to the back of the bike to the amp. If not, the front speakers are not connected to the amp. The only reason I would suspect for not connecting the front speakers to the amp would be if the tour pak and the attached amp were removeable in which case the front speakers would no signal from the amp with the amp removed, so a prior owner connected the front speakers to the radio rather than have no audio with the tour pak removed.

ok been chasing wires and it goes into the harness that runs under the tank, cant see where it not connected or spiced, my guess is since its a classic it didnt come with rear pods, when installed the front speakers just were not hooked up but I dont know where. I know the fronts are not hooked up because when I turn the switch off, the rears turn off but the fronts keep playing for a few seconds the they turn off.
but on another note I bought some polk db521. made a huge diffrence when I installed them up front. last night I ordered the ss amp, adapter rings and polk db651 LMAO dont know if I will be able to figure out how to hook all this chit up but I think nutz said baby steps to some one so ill just start crawling.

harleypingman.. did I just read somewhere that you have 2 RF 300x4 amps sitting atop your radio in your fairing? Man do you have pics of that by chance.. I'm thinking about throwing a PBR300x2 in there with my SS to drive the MM691 6x9s in my lids.

here to help ya sir.. no fret.. It looks intimidating but once you get started and with the help you'll receive here, it will quickly turn into a nice project for you. It's not difficult at all but does take a little patience to understand and see how all this fits together.

which would you recommend, im thinking bridging the front speakers and using the db651's and leaving the rear pods as they are with the harley amp but putting the db521 back there. I I go this route I would just run new speaker wires up front and leave the rears wired as they are.
or removing the harley amp. (its mounted to the bottom of the tour pack) and running everything off the ss 4.520.
for now gonna stay with the stock hu
i rarley listen to anything but fm sometimes listen to I heart though the aux plug.

From reading all the threads on here I understand how a lot of this is coming togeather, got the amp, speakers, adapter ring and Amp install kit ordered. Not sure which or what I need as far as RCA adapter or do I need them at all? That bracket was confusing me till you said you hammered it flat, then it made perfect scence, I was trying to figure it out as angle iron.

I hope Im making scence, I think way faster than I type.

i would run all 4 speakers off the SS amp and remove that HD amp altogether with the harness for it. You can probably sell that here on the forum and recoupe some of your investment on the new system.
