Default Tuning a Sony Head Unit

I just had a Sony CDX-GT710HD head unit installed, JL Audio TR650-CXi 6.5's put in the fairing and a set of Kicker 5 1/4 speakers in the rear tour pak pod. The Kickers are model number 40CS54. These were not my first choice but the shop could not get a set of JL Audio's for the rear pods in time I needed my bike back for a ride. Here is the problem, I didn't have the cash at the time for an amp and the speakers sound good except when I turn it up while on the freeway or around 70. This stereo has an equilizer on it but I have no idea how to set it. I need to take the bass out of the speakers where they wont distort. I have played with it some but still is in issue. The book says it has 7 different bands to set and I guess I am just used to bass and treble lol. Is there anyone in the Conroe, Spring or Cypress area that I could meet up with that could show me how to properly tune this radio. Plus I realize I need to add an amp which I am within the next couple weeks. Just dont know which one to go with. Read alot about Rockford and Soundstream on here but I havent heard alot of talk about Memphis. Are they any good?

Thanks for any help I can get

Edit

I have a 1998 Electra Glide Classic

Couple of things you need to do.
  1. wrap those fairing speakers in polyfil and line the rear pods with polyfil. DO NOT wrap the rear speakers, just line the pods with a thin layer.
  2. That particular head unit has 7 EQ settings built in plus a user setting. You need to cycle through these as there are a couple that pretty much take the bass out

I'm in Cypress but really no need to hook up, just need to figure out the settings on your head unit to adjust your sound properly before you destroy those speakers.

Yes sir an amp will definitely help especially with the TR650-CXi speakers. The Kicker speakers however are not rated/spec'd very well. With the setup you currently have I would highly suggest going with something like the RF PBR300x4 amp. I've installed 2 Memphis amps and removed both within a couple of weeks. The SQ is just not there nor do I feel they put out the rated power they spec them at. I'm assuming where you saw these is up at that audio shop in Conroe which is where both of the Memphis amps I isntalled came from (by way of the owner).

The audio shop I had them installed at actually recommended the pbr300.4. The shop I was at has the rockford amp in stock but was trying to sell me the memphis instead. I will go with the rockford amp then. I wanted to go with the JL Audio in the rear pods but was wondering if the size difference affects the rear passenger seating area due to I mostly ride two up.

The shop I had the audio installed at is not the same shop as the one who has the rockford in stock.
