Default Help with a little water please.

I am in the middle of my install using the PBR300 amp and a couple of MM651's in the fairing on my 2009 Ultra Classic.

I got everything mounted under the fairing so I decided to take a ride to get rid of same gas (in the tank) so I could remove the tank. The biggest mistake I made was riding from Dallas up north to the Casino across the Oklahoma border but I don't want to talk about that.

Anyway on the way back it came a heavy rain that was so bad I had to stop under a bridge at least twice in the last 50 miles of the trip home.

I parked the bike in the garage when I got home and decided to leave it alone for a while. Just went out and decided to take the fairing off and start some wiring. I decided to turn the amp around and when I pulled it off from the bike I was surprised to feel that the velcro on the amp was wet! I remember that reading on the poly-fil thread that someone had a similar problem but I never saw a solution.

I thought about it for a while and remembered several months ago when I took the fairing off to install a shorter windshield that it was stuck a bit to the stock windshield. Some of the black rubber seal in the fairing tore off and remained on the windshield. I really didn't think much about it. I just looked at the lid and the rubber basically ripped off right by where the screw holes are. There is enough gone that it let rain water in. Not a lot but some is too much. I suspect that is what cause that guys polly-fil to get wet.

So, now to my question. I need to replace that thin stick on rubber seal. Any idea where you would get that stuff? I might be able to order it from Harley but that would probably take a while.

I thought about putting some silicone where it's missing and install the windshield with some wax paper in between and let it dry but not crazy about that idea.

Any help?

Default MY solution

My 1996 FLHTC has same style inner fairing and windshield. I replaced that foam with the Harley part many times already over the years. I had trouble waiting each time for dealer to order it and now use camper shell foam tape. I mark the holes and use a gasket punch set to punch them in the foam. Just make sure the sticky side is away from the windshield the "HD hardcoating is anything but hard" if ya get something stuck to it it will peel off like cellophane from the plastic windshield.

Thanks. I'll check around for that. It was about 1970 since I installed a camper top on my pickup. Where did you find it?

Autozone has some that is 3/16 thick and that should work perfect.

I've never noticed water on my amp but as a added measure I cut a thin piece of plexiglass and Velcro to top of amp.

Haven't had the problem yet, but have only had minor rains so far in this year's riding. I do have a bit of a concern if I get into a downpour, so may look for something myself. I have the fairing pouches to, so adds an additional bit of gap around the edges of the windshield, so thinking I may put some clear silicone in there just to be safe.
