Hello, I'm upgrading my audio in the next week or two and was pretty much sold on the Biketronics Pro speakers and amp. I was very impressed with their customer service. I spoke with a guy (I forget his name) for 20 minutes. He answered all my questions and was full of knowledge. I found a guy on facebook (BadAzzBikes). He is offering Hertz speakers and a Kenwood amp for around 400.00. I'm sure it's not comparable to the Biketronics. I'm just weighing my options.

Thanks!!

Default Guidance on Speakers and amp for 2014 Street Glide

So I've read a TON of good information on the hd forum regarding audio components on touring bikes. I haven't seen many specifics on which speakers are best fit and quality for the 2014 street glide, fairing replacement.

I'm leaning towards the Focal Polyglass 165 CVX 6.5-Inch Coaxial Speaker Kit or the mm651s. I will be adding 2 additional 6x9s in my bags in the near future, so that is a factor guiding my decision for an amp.

As far as amps, I'm leaning towards the RF 300x2 or a sound stream. I'm not sure which sound stream would work best though.

Any thoughts, experience or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Default Speaker Internal vs External Pods Installation

Hi SunPilot - l installed the same exact model speaker kappa 62.11i on '14 Limited and I just wanted to share some observations regarding the results of how the speakers sound when mounted on the external side of the speaker pods similar to factory speakers vs mounting the pods on the internal side of the pods.

Basically, I installed the kappa 62.11i right speaker pods on the internal side by splitting the speaker pods. On the left side, I installed the the kappa 62.11i the traditional way, just like factory, on the external side. Installed both right & left speaker pods. At this time, I did not install the external fairing since I am still conducting some sound tests.

I then powered up the boom system, and by the way, I have no amp installed at this time. So to cut to the chase loaded my tunes from USB and began turning up the volume. I immediately began noticing that my right speaker has lost some its bass punch, and the music playing sounds very hollow and low grade quality, like coming from one of those cheap 4" or 3" speakers.

However, the left speaker pod, the bass sound had more "punch" and "thud" and was amazingly sounded so much better that the right speaker. I then proceeded to disconnect alternatively the left & right speaker for several seconds & minutes to compare, and to my amazement, there was so much significant sound deference.

I did not have time to record the results on my iphone, but I am so convinced by my unscientific tests that I reopened my right speaker pod and reinstalled the speaker on the external side. Of course the only issue is how to refit the grills, however, I ordered the Boom grill to address that issue.

I know most have already installed their speakers on the inside of the pods and I know the difficulty of removing those "pesky" hard to reach internal bolts, however, if any of you are in the process of upgrading from factory to the 6.75" speakers, e.g., kappa 62.11i, try to this simple experiment and see if you can detect or hear any difference.

Those that have already completed the installation on the internal pods and added an AMP, you may or may not detect and sound quality difference as the AMP is more than likely compensating for the difference.

If this test can be replicated and have same results, I guess there is a reason why they designed the factory speakers to be mounted on the external side of the pods, & there is a reason why the speakers are enclosed in a speaker pods on the fairing.

Default Amp settings RF PBR300X2 with Infinty Kappa speakers and CS Magic Box

I have installed the RF PBR300X2 with Infinty Kappa 62.11i speakers and CS Magic Box on my '14 SGS. I also used poly-fill loosely in the bottom of the pods and installed the speakers on the outside of the pods rather than on the inside. I am now looking for the best place to start with the amp settings, HP-LP-AP, crossover setting and gain. I have learned a lot on this thread and really appreciate all that have passed on their knowledge and experience.

DC2009EGUC: Interesting test. I think I am one of the few that have installed the Kapps 62.11i speakers on the outside of the front pods where the stock speakers go. And I must say I do hear good bass sound and good "punch" and "thud". I do not have anything to compare them to other than the stock setup but I agree with you findings. I did about 200 miles today and they sound very good without a flash. And again, I don't have anything to compare to so I there is a good chance the correct flash would make them even better. When I do take the pod back put I am going to put a hand full of Polyfill down in the bottom of the pods as UN has suggested.

Although I appreciate the testing and time involved in doing this, there is no logical or technical explanation for what you're seeing/hearing here. Having the speaker mounted to the inside of the pod will take up approximately .5% more air space because of the speaker rim being on the inside of the pod vs the outside of the pod and that in no way will make an audible difference to your ears.

Now what could be happening and would be interesting to see/hear from you is whether the woofer surround on the internally mounted speaker is actually hitting the pod causing what you are experiencing.

I would set at AP, and crank your gains up to about 5-ish
