Ok After combing through the many threads and reading people's choices on speakers I am really no closer to deciding what to purchase and im pulling out what little hair I have left.
I have kicked around the Polk MM series 6.5 and I have a friend who has them and loves them then I read about the BT 7.1's and have not heard anything bad about them but I would like to hear them in person before passing judgement.
Then I read post where people say don't waste the money on the marine speakers you really don't have to worry abut it nowadays the way they make speakers. So I ask if I have around 300.00 to spend on 2 speakers whats the best route to go. I have a PBR 2 channel amp that I will be using also in this setup.
I have the polk speakers on my electra glide. They work just fine. When you have another $200.00 laying around, look into the hog tunes tweeters. Mount right to the fairing and have a great look. They are amazing and really make a big difference IMHO
It sort of depends what you're going for in your speaker setup. BT 7.1s are almost twice the price of the Polk MM651s for a pair. I have the Polks and they sound good; but I'd like a little more bass. I'm still playing around with my PBR300X2 settings whenever I pull the fairing so maybe I can improve some on the bass. Ideally, you can listen to some bikes that have different audio setups; or lacking that, you might want to go to the local Best Buy or audio store and listen to some speakers and then make your choice after that. Of the two speakers you mention - if you want more bass in your sound and don't mind spending more for them, then the larger BT's are your ticket. The lifetime warranty is certainly an attractive feature with the BTs.

Do you need to cut/drill into the fairing to install?
The tweeter pod? You have to drill two or three holes. One you put it on, you can't take it off.
You can...but you'll have to buy the Harley leather dash pad. It uses the same holes. Just went through this to get rid of a tweeter pod installed by a previous owner.

Bad advice in my opinion! speakers in a Best Buy store display will sound nothing like they will sound in your bike fairing. Listen to the advice on this forum.
