I have searched and read many threads here about speakers. Certainly very informative.
I am currently painting my inner fairing so want to upgrade my speakers at the same time.
Whilst the Boom option is readily available in the UK, the J&M, hog tunes, Hawg Wired etc are not.
I have seen some mention of other regular auto audio speakers and that got me wondering what is so special about these alternative speaker options that makes them suitable for bikes, with the implication being that regular car stereo speakers aren't
I can understand the desire for waterproof materials, but there are numerous options that satisfy this. Anything else I haven't thought of?
I dont there is anything real special other than water resistance.
There are other brands that work very well like JBL,Infinity Kappa,etc-
I have some Infinity's in mine and they sound good.
Having done some further research and looking at the postings on this forum the Infinity Kappa speakers look like a good option that is readily available. They appear to come with seperate tweeters and crossover network. Are you guys just using the woofer or where do you install the tweeters?
I believe that you can use the 'flush' mount with the Kappas. My Boston Accoustic Pro60SE's give you the option to mounr them 'flush' with the speaker, or separate them, for possible installation in one of the gauge holes.
Even seen guys put new holes in the upper part of the fairing for the tweeters. Good Luck !!
The Infiniti Kappa 2ohm speakers are a great choice with the stock Harmon Kardon head unit. I don't know why most people here are brainwashed into thinking you need some kind of special "motorcycle" speaker. If you really want a nice upgrade get the Infiniti 6.5" speakers for the front along with some 6.5" adapters from Dragonfly concepts. Now that sounds nice!
I had the Infinty 6.5 kappas and they are a great speaker for the money, around $100 with adapter rings. They replaced my hogtunes which are good ,but size matters.I now have Titan 6.5 s and they are only a bit better than the Infinitys and twice the cost.
I have a softail and my options are limited. For you guys with touring models the options are endless, you can upgrade your OEM speakers and amps to an amazing volume and quality...
