I bought my 09 SG today and everything was fine. When I got it home I was playing around with it and everything was fine, until it wasn't. I accidentally started the bike without the key in the ignition and that 's when it made this awful noise.
Starting the bike without the key in the ignition has nothing to do with it, you key is only for locking the ignition so you will never need the key to start the bike. What level does the volume on the head unit show when it starts making that noise? You may have to take the fairing apart and do some trouble shooting with your amp and a few other things. But if you just bought it I'm sure you could take it back to the dealer. Not sure how it's setup but maybe you could unhook the amp from the battery so you don't blow your speakers on the way to the dealer?

OK, thanks for the info on the startup issue w/out the key. I guess it was just a coincidence.
I think I will have to get into the fairing and check some things in there. This happens with the radio off and even with the fuse pulled out of the radio completely.
I bought it from a private party, so I can't take it to the dealer and tell them to fix their mistake unforntunately.

check the power connections on the amp in the fairing and at the battery.
I will remember to do this when I am back in the vicinity of the bike. Right now it is in CT and I am in NJ. 2 weeks away. I miss her already.
