I'm dealing with some problems with my radio so I took my fairing off again to check for loose wires or anything that may cause me to lose sound. I found one small yellow wire rubbed through plastic, one speaker wire was loose and the tiny red wire from the amp is connected to nothing. The illistration has that wire going to ground which I must have overlooked. does anyone know if this could be my problem?

cut the red wire off, you don't need it unless you have a ground loop which I highly doubt.
which yellow wire was rubbed through?
I really hate those terminals on the sides of amps but what I do to solidify the connections is tin the ends of any wires going into those terminals so the screw has something more solid to bite into other than fine copper strands.
Not sure which wire the yellow one was ie right channel or left but it is one of those. Could a loose speaker wire short the amp and cause it to shut off? when I loose sound I just turn the HU off and then back on and then all is usually good.

absolutely. If it rubbed through and shorted to ground you had a direct short to the internal amp. If where it rubbed through is in an area that will be up against a sharp edge, put some sheathing around it to protect it. If it keeps shorting out like that it will eventually take out the amp altogether.
1. redone all wireing including ground
2. When the audio go's off I still have power at amp and Head Unit
3. When the problem occurs I tried bypassing the amp but still no audo so I think that rules out the amp
4. This is not a consistent problem and I cant seem to find the 1 thing that causes me to loose sound. Sometimes it happens while riding down the road and some times when I shut the moto off and turn pwr back on I will have no audio.
I am hesitant to replace the HK just because I'm not absolutely certain that is the problem and it would be a very pricy part swap just to find out I had a different problem. Any suggestions again welcome.
I've been under the impression this is a common problem ith the HK head units.
craaaaaaaaaap, I had a dealership tell me the same thing but then others have said they have never heard of it. I was told by the 1 dealership that I could send it off and get it fixed for $250.

Contact Tony at Iron Cross Audio and describe to him your symptoms. I bet it's a cracked board.
