How many on here head south for the winter? Where are you from and where do you go? I'm in London Ontarion and am heading down to Fort Myers Beach, Florida for the winter (or most of it any ways).
Where do you stay when you're in Florida? On this side of the country folks mostly go to Arizona or SE California. Problem is, if you're not a golfer I don't see much of a draw. I'd be more interested in Florida. What are the prices like?
Spent last winter in Mesa Arizona. This year we'll be in a house on Fort Myers Beach. Rental rates are fairly high if you want to be on the water. Arizona seems to be cheaper for the most part and the riding is definetly better in the west.
Scotsdale is a pretty expensive area compared to Phoenix. Mesa is a pretty laid back area and we enjoyed our stay there. As far as Florida is concerned it depends where you're looking. The place we rented for the winter is a three bedroom, double car garage and a block off the beach (3000 a month). Inland you can find prices anywhere from about 1500 and up for a relatively decent place. My youngest son lives in Sarasota which can be very expensive if you want to be on the water (3500 a month and up).
We flew on Oct 23, putting our Ultra is storage in Tampa. We are going back in March, taking our grandchildren to Disneyworld, but don't now if we will have time to play with the bike during that week. We are thinking to go back down in late spring and take a tour of the Keys.
Punta Gorda Fl. is a good jumping off place to spend the winter in the Sunshine State. It's a nice quiet area yet close enough to the action if you want it. Ft. Myers has bike nights every other month during the winter months, Cape Coral every other one. You are close to the Keys and Daytona for Bike Week. Sure the West is nice but you can't beat riding by the H2O.
Spent a week, a month ago in Englewood... Was quite nice + 25- 30 c everyday.... Even the rain one day was nice.. As it was -35 p here at that time....
