Default CV40, Possible Slide Issues...

Hey, 1999 Springer Softail original carburetor, 80 cubic inch Evo.. I've never seen this type of issue with the slide on a CV carburetor where the retainer for the diaphragm appears to be overheated and warped. Is there the possibility that this will affect the seal on the diaphragm and is this guy going to need a new slide because that part is not serviceable? You'll see the difference in the gaps in the picture that I posted.. The Gap all the way on the inside though seems to be pretty even, it's just the outer edge that supports the rest of the diaphragm.. Thanks...

Geta drag replacement kit. If that is original it would be good to do in general

It could affect it. Have you tried pushing up the slide when the carb is assembled and see if it slides back down easily ?

If not get a new slide and diaphragm at CV performance. Poor thing is 26 years old, show it some love

CV performance has quality replacement parts if they are no longer available from HD.

I never pulled the rubber of a slide to see what it looked like underneath...

Could be age or heat, hell could be they all get like that.

New one is 39 bucks from CV Performance.

I did hook vacuum Source up to the intake side of the carburetor and as I opened the throttle plate the slide did go up.. I'm not sure how many inches of vacuum my vacuum cleaner supplied but as I slowly cracked the throttle plate, I could see the slide Rising and once I got to about halfway open on the throttle plate the slide went up at least 75%.. I'll get it on the bike see how it runs and go from there.. If I have to I'll replace it..Thanks guys appreciate your advice..

Usually someone decides to drill out the vacuum port.
