HELP, what model is this.....
HELP, what model is this.....
I have just purchased this 1980 HD custom and the bill of sale does not say what model it is. Anyone have a guess. It is a custom frame built in Calgary in 1980 thats all I know but the DMV and insurance company want to know what model my Harley is.

Like you said, its a custom. I have the same frame just different front end and tank. I had to get a appraisal from the dealer before the insurance company would insure the bike.

If it has a vin number you can look it up that way. Here is an unofficial vin code site.

The vin number on the frame isnt a harley number, I was just wondering if it is a custom frame then on my ownership does that make the bike a custom? Is this bike more of a dyna compared to a softail? Any information on this bike would be helpfull. All I have is a letter from that Alberta goverment saying it was registered as a 1980 Harley.

The title will say "Custom". Yes its a dyna type frame. Mine is registered as a Harley Davidson and under model it says Custom.

Dynas didn't come out till the 90s. FXRs were before them and its not one of them either.

Any info is good since ill be trying to put some new parts and a seat on my bike, its a 1200 shovel engine iIknow that and I thnk the rear fender is a FL.
