So, I've never had a Harley before, or a solid mounted engine. On the highway, at 60mph plus it almost feels like the back tire isn't balanced right, but not quite. It gets pretty hellatious vibratey. Is that normal for a bike like this?
Well it's hard to say. It could be your gearin is set up for stop light to stoplight
That is a pretty big back tire and it could be out of true. But yes solid mount motor vibrate more. But for starters you would need to know how many rpm's your turning at 70
I was thinking I would need to check the back tire for being true and balanced. It's like having a car tire in the back.
I've got no tach, but it's spinning pretty good on the highway. What's an acceptable rpm range for highway speeds?
I have mine set up for thehighway gearing wise. At 80 I am doing about 3100 but here in florida the speed limits are high and everything is wide open. If you're at 4 grand at 70 that is way too high
Just an update on my bike. I returned from vacation, stuck a tach on the bike and determined it's running about 3000 at 65 mph, so rpm is good. I drove twenty miles into work today and it was OK. I think the combo of a solid mounted engine and solid pipes create a harmonic at about 55 mph that creates the "buzziness". It's good before and after, so I consider it fixed. Lol. Thanks for all the replies.
