Default How to get light scraches out of chrome

Hello everyone, I bought a set of T bars off of ebay pretty cheap and I really like the bars, but I noticed there are some light scratches on the top from them rubbing on the box during shipping. I tried a little chrome cleaner on them, but it didn't help. I really don't want to return them and they are used so I didn't expect perfection and I didn't want to spend 200.00 on a new set to find out that I didn't like them. Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks for all of your help!!!

This has been asked many times. The answer is:

There is no way to remove scratches from chrome, even if the scratches are very fine.

I have been detailing cars and bikes for many years and have tried many differnt polishes, waxes and chemicals - all without any success whatsoever. The only way to solve the problem is to buy a new part or have the old one rechromed.

I used a polishing pad on dremel and Mothers polish, I figured I couldn't make it any worse. The end result wasn't to bad. You can still see them a little bit in the sunlight but definitely tolerable now.

Try Wenol. It should help remove the scratches for the most part. Then use a good chrome polish like from Wizrds or Mothers. But the scratches will always be there and you will notice them, even if others don't.

Chrome is only a few mils thick and once it's scratched, it's there to stay. Are you sure they are chromed and not polished stainless like the stock bars? Check them with a magnet to see if they are chrome.

I beg to differ. I used the cleaner that Mcguires makes to clean plastic headlights. It takes a lot of elbo grease but it works at taking out small imperfections.

Just don't over do it. If its chrome plated, Wenol, Maaz, Mothers, etc.,
are all great products. All these tips are great. Don't put the bars on a buffing wheel, especially one converted off a grinder. It will look great,
and all of a sudden "boom", you buff it too much, the scratches are gone
and you see brass under the chrome. Just do by hand with some elbo
grease.

I'd contact the shipper and tell them the damaged result of their bad packing job and state you want a refund due to no fault of your own. Just a suggestion, remember, it's your money.

Default chrome

I agree with with Mr Clean and peppi--I have been detailing cars and bikes for a long time as well--when it comes to chrome you have to real careful and that might not be enough--most things are chrome plated and it is not very thick--if you start to buff with a wheel or a coarse buffing material with a polisher chances are you are going to make matters way worse-unlike a painted surface that has 4-5 layers(most fine scratches and swirl marks are in the clear coat)-these imperfections can be buffed then polished then waxed to a mirror finish-chrome has 1 layer--be very careful or you may just have bought something for the junk yard

I have found for the best results just use a high grade chrome polish with a mothers mini ball--wipe off only with a microfiber towel--do not use pressure-as with paint--pressure is not the answer-speed is when removing wax, polish etc
