Default Surface Rust on Chrome

Unfurtunatly I no longer have a garage to keep my prized Soft tail in, and have aquired some small amounts of surface rust on some parts of my chrome. Any way to get that stuff off with any product out there or any other way please let me know. I have a cover at least now. Thanks for any help!

HD sells a product "Chrome Brightener/Cleaner" or words to that effect. It works extremely well removing light suface rust, such as in allen and Torx head bolts, etc. It seems to have very little abrasive in it, it any.

Believe it or not steel wool has always worked for me in shining up chrome. I know it sounds abrasive and bad, but it sure seems to do a good job taking off surface rust, tar, bugs and other gunk and has never damaged any chrome I have used it on. Try it out!

If you're gonna try this make sure you're using superfine (000, triple zero) steel wool.

Any chrome polish should work for you though. Then put some metal sealer or wax on the chrome so the water will bead off.

Yea, any of that will work. I use "Nevr Dull". You can get it at most stores. Never failed me. You might wnat to think about an outdoor designed bike cover and a disk brake lock to keep honest people honest.

Ultra fine steel wool and WD-40 does a really nice job of cleaning up the rust. Then polish with whatever you like. Make sure to use a good wax to prevent recurrance.

I use Mothers Chrome Polish on my 04 RK, and it works pretty good.... I am wondering if I should go behind it with some wax afterwards??? (I use Meguairs Gold Class on the tins..)
