Hi All,
Finaly was able to pick up my new Fatboy! Anyway, since bike is new chrome is in great shape but I'd really like to know how to take care of it so it's stays nice. I know I can wax the chrome that stays cool but what to put on the pipes, engine cases, and oil tank? Don't want something that will burn off and leave residue. Thanks!
Other than polishing the chrome keep it clean and dry, if it's just lightly dusty and you don't want to drag out the water hose use a microfiber towel and generous amounts of window cleaner. Keep this off plastics if you are using an ammonia based product it may cause them to turn milky/hazed I suggest ammonia free. ie (Sprayway aerosol cans are fantastic) http://www.amazon.com/Sprayway-Glass...2963787&sr=1-1
I like Mothers Chrome Polish. Use a Duster to remove loose grit and apply cleaner with a good quality Miraclefiber Cloth & dry to a haze before shining with a clean MF cloth. Never use T shirt or a sponge on chrome or paint. I have put a coat of wax on chrome but think maybe it will burn off or haze the brilliant shine Mothers gets it. Easy to use & takes very little time.
I just use wax, no problems, looks the way it did the day I bought 3 years ago. Be careful with metal polishes because some have abbrasive that will scratch the chrome if you scrub hard. Also, be careful and don't get polish on the engine case itself, its a beeocth to get off.
Similar to a wax application, you tear off a wad of never dull, scrub it on (it's great at taking off surface rust), let it dry, wipe it off, then sit back and admire the shine!

I use the turtle wax chrome polish. It works really well. I'm not sure how the other's work, but I will say that it's a bitch making sure that you don't miss any spots. If you do miss a spot it seems you always notice it when you're out riding and can't really do anything about it anyways.
