'05 Super Glide Front End
For the most part, I've been pleased with my '05 Dyna Super Glide; but, I've never been that wild about the front end. There's something about the visor that doesn't appeal to my particular aesthetic. Yeah, I realize it's been a feature since 1971 (but, I notice they've since dropped the visorfrom '06 and '07 models). Also, I think the fork tubes look a little wimpy at 39mm (also upgraded to 49mm in '06-'07). I must admit though, it handles great.
I have been contemplating changing out the whole front end for a FLST front end. I've come across a few people who've done it, but not a lot of talk of it here.(Threads seem tobe getting a lot of input fromStreet Bob and Wide Glide riders ... I guess I can see why there's no realthought about changing out front ends.)
Also, '04 and '05 SG went with a 1" axle and almost everything I've been thinking of using uses 3/4" axles. I like the look of narrow wheel with wide forks (although I've heard some contrary opinions), and I like the cast aluminum stock wheels.
Does anyone have first hand experience changing out their front ends (I think W6S changed out his low rider for a WG)? Any thoughts on the subject?
[Also, since I mentioned the 1971, I've been thinking of painting my tins in a 34th anniversary tribute ... white with blue and red panelssimilar tothe 35th anniversary/original paint job (but maybe with a little attitude or a variationon a theme). Presently, it is vivid black ... what say you?]

I went with a wide glide conversion kit, with the kit you do need to reuse your 39mm tubes. I love the new front end just wish I would have got the one with the 5 degree rake.... Here's some pics, if you wanna see more click the link below the pics.

To seethe particular one Naz_Man has, go tohttp://www.accutronix.com/products/new/N1b.php. They have triple trees with no rake, 3 degree rake and 5 degree rake. Not sure if you can buy them online, but if not, you could check out J&P Cycles (www.jpcycles.com) or Cyborg Cycles (www.cyborgcycles.com) for some good service and prices.

I bought 3 degree raked Rick Doss 41mm forks on eBay brand newfor $460 (regularly $700+). it has the 3/4 axle. but, uses a 1999 and under softail brake caliper. There are adapter kits to keep your existing caliper, or getwhat i found....a 2000+ caliper with 99 under mounting brackets! Found it on eBay! back to the Softtail forks..... to get it to work on a Dyna, some "adaptation" has to be done in concerns to the fork stop. "R Racing" a forum member here, made me a bracket identical to what he used on his 2003 Customized Superglide to make it work. Do a search of his posts and see what I'm talking about. If you ask real nice, he might even cut you one up on his CNC machine! I had him do the machining on my lower raked cup so it would work with his bracket. Jim is the best! About my3 degree raked bearing cups, they willkeep my trail decent, and adds more rake! (34 degrees rake total with 3.5 inches of trail)
I effectively, got the rake I wanted, and got rid of the entire front end, which to be honest, I never liked...from the time I bought her.....[&:]
I got my forks at 32" total length, which is 1.25 inches longer than stock. The raked bearing cups lower the front end 1 inch. that leaves .25 inches excess length, which is leveled out by the rake, maybe even lower it a tad, which will look KILLER with my slammed tail!
Can't wait to get it all installed, with my disc rear wheel, 21 pizza cutter and custom paint!
Customized Superglide! can't wait!!![8D]
PM me if want to know more about customizing Superglides!
