Default SuperGlide to WideGlide Triples!

I know there are a couple of ya'll that installed the Wide Glide triples on your '06 Super Glides! I have installed the 11" Low Rider shocks.
I want to install Wide Glide width triples and I want to use my stock forks. But I want to stretch it out as much as possible (even though a couple degrees isn't a lot?!).

Questions are as follows: The stock Wide Glide triples have a 2 degree rack? How did this affect the rake/trail? What is the new position of the forks as they are situated in the clamps? What degree clamps would you recommend?

BTW.. Found a company that makes Wide Glide clamps in any degree you need for $210.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The raked WG trees ('06+(?)) are gonna be for 49mm fork tubes and I don't think your SG tubes are 49's. If you go with '05- WG trees, I don't think you get the built-in rake. Hope I'm right about this; someone smarter'n me will either confirm this or set us both straight.

read this... http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/rakeandtrail.html

rake/trail can make or break your bike. When I did this, i only added 2* of rake. barely noticeable but I wanted to keep my handling.

There's more to it than just slapping on some raked trees. you could also do raked cups in the neck too.

I will admit that after changing my front end... don't know if it was the rake, the 21" wheel, a combo of both, or what... but my sharp turning radius has increased. Takes some getting used to. Feels like a completely different bike. Which is good, but I feel like i'm having to get used to a new bike.

Naw, my '06 has 49mm's. Trying to decide between 1 degree and 3 degrees? (Don't want to pay the Harely Triple Tree prices so I'm going with aftermarket)

thomaskray, the 21 inch front tire actually got you back to the +3.8 range. With my 19" tire and a 3 degree triple rake, I will be at +2.7. Only problem is that I'm not sure how to get the lowering of the rear end by 1" into the calculations? However, that should only add a little more possitive trail? I'm trying to stay between plus 3 and 4.

Oh well, I guess I will pull the trigger soon! If the 3 degree triples don't work, I'll see if I can exchange them for 1 degree triples.

thanks for the help

If I were to guess, i would say the 1" drop in the back would barely make a difference. There are guys on here who put on 5* trees and loved it. SOmebody did it with a lowrider. Can't remember who.

Have you taken a look at the posts by WS6Formula? If you're about to pay $210 for aftermarket triple trees, I don't think he paid any more than that. He got his through Zanotti. If you're interested in some good gouge: go to the member list, look up his profile and review for his posts on the subject. I think you'll find it's worth your time.

I did a 'wide glide' front end on mine, but did a 41mm fork with the trees from a Fat Boy ... no change in the rake, but I'm pretty sure the fork length is a little different from my stock '05 FXDI (or the stock Fat Boy for that matter). As I appreciate what I've read on the subject, a slight variation from your stock set up shouldn't be that dramatic of a difference in handling ... as long as the end result is close to the optimal range.

Good luck!

Default Thanks Ya'll

Thanks for the help! I will review the posts by WS6Formula.

What I found is that the dealers are now selling the entire "kit" including upper and lower triples and all bearings, washers, nut, etc. for about $360 - Zanoti's, Surdykes, Chicago -

I'll let ya'll know how it turns out!
