I've had a similar problem when they powdercoated the shifter. Bike wouldn't shift into second from first and not from 2nd into 1st also had some false neutrals between gears. Turned out they installed the shifter too tight to the primary so the rubber grommet was binding. A re install of the shifter solved it.

Does the transmission shift normally, or does it miss the shift?

This doesn't make any sense, and you too my friend, should consider some riding lessons. Every riding instructor doesn't agree with you.

have a nice weekend.

A riding instructor is no mechanic and why riding lessons? That has nothing to do with TS problem.

I 100% agree with having fun and such. However, asking for help with a real concern will generate a lot of help from from people on here that will spend time looking stuff up and such. Just throwing out a call for help by making up a problem is more a trolling then anything. However, maybe the FP sincerely thinks you put brake fluid in the bleeder port of the caliper with a dropper. So I reserve actually using the t.... word. I have spun wheels attempting to help him. However, I have stopped since someone who does not know where the brake fluid goes needs a hands on 101 class. Not internet help...

Cascade, thanks for the advise. The grommet doesn't seem to bind. The foot shifter is quite free. I did lubricate the cable today and it only went into neurtal twice. I think I am gaining on it. Certainly better than last week. Please continue to offer suggestions.

FWIW when I ride in skate shoes I get neutral all the time. Then when I ride in my military "combat" boots or carharts I hit second no problem. Back to when I ride skate shoes I have to mentally think about applying more pressure for a sound shift from 1st to 2nd and not just a flick up. With my boots they are thicker so the flick has the height and sturdy material to get it up into second. Just my two cents

JMummery, thanks for the reply. I have been wearing the same Harley boot with the side zipper for two years. Why would this happen when for the last year in a half no problems at all. In any case, will check it out the next time I ride( Wednesday). I do hear a thunk in the back when I shift to second, and then it still occasionally goes into neutral. Maybe I am getting lazy. I have been thinking of lowering the foot shifter pedal one notch to get more throw.
Will post my results. Keep posting.
Thanks,
Roger

At any point did you have problems getting it in any gear? If you have put too much pressure shifting and possibility of bending a shifter paw. They can be adjusted but if you don't know how have it done.
My baker has a adjustment on the side of the transmission. You just turn a screw.

There's 2 things that come to mind, shifter paw bent, or one of the shifter arms has come lose. Going from 1st to 2nd is a slightly longer shift so if any of the linkage is lose it may run out of room going to second. Double check all the joints, including the arm coming from the transmission.
