i forgot to add that my birthday is coming up. She asked what I wanted and I said forward controls. She said I will buy them. I was like hell yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. lol
In my case I have my $ and her Dad owns a business that she gets her $ from. We have one joint checking account and each our own checking, credit cards, etc. We have been married over 30 yrs and my 1st car was a bike so it doesnt mean much to her. She doesnt ride with me and spends her money on the casino or the grandson or whatever. Who cares.House, cars, bikes are all paid for and we have rental property. In time with planning and a little luck you will be just fine. Remember retirement comes quicker than you think..........That is why I donated my parts to this board to help others.........
Oh my God, I canât believe you guys would try to hide anything from your wives!! [:@]That is a terrible, and despicable act of deceit!!
......ok, she just went upstairs.....now, I pay all the bills, so she doesnt ever see whats in the account, so she never knows what I spend, when its less than what she expects, I just say I don't know what happened, and then ask her if she bought some clothes or something!!
Take out small amounts of cash so the wife doesn't notice. Then stash the cash at your girlfriends house.
Seriously though, my wife and I used to butt heads about spending when we shared a single account. Now we each get an "allowance" (sounds childish) in our own checking accounts outside our main "bills" account. Now when it's gone it's gone. There's no one to blame when wondering where the money went.

The allowance thing is something we just started. A few hundred dollars a month auto depo'd into my account so I don't have to ask for "permission". The only downside is it also my beer fund so if I'm drinkin' much I ain't puttin' much on the bike. Wifey uses her allowance for books mostly.
Know what you're saying about an allowance seeming childish at first but when you have a big mortgage, car payment, 2 kids in private school and activities, and of course a Harley payment it is not a bad idea at all. Kinda gives me something to look forward to since the money becomes available the same day of every month.
Hubby puts in long hours at work. I don't begrudge him anything, as long as we have the money to pay for it and savings in the bank. I'll never forget the day he walked in and said....guess what dear, I just bought a new FLSTC. I know he'll never forget my reply.... That's great...when do I get mine. The next year....well, you can see my signature photo what I came home with.
This year, we're going on the High Seas Rally Cruise along with (at last count) 1500 other bikers.
Life is too short to be shellfish, deceitful or untrustworthy. We'll celebrate 37 years of marriage come June.

Now here is where the subject gets tricky. I encourage the wife to drink beer with me, unless just with the guys. If she is out with me, then the cash comes out of the bills account.
easy...........we have always had separate bank accounts and an understanding. I dont ask her how much she spends on shoes and she doesn't ask me how much I spend on the bike.
I think I'm one of the few with a great and totally understanding wife.
I'm the "spender" in our relationship. She barely buys anything that a normal woman would...She does own a LOT of clothes...but I think I have more in the intake and exhaust than she does in her closet since she's a clearance rack only shopper. But...we have no bills but our mortgage, no kids, no car payments, and 1 dog...so we're doin pretty good. When I came home from my normal 2 week stint on the North Slope in December and said, "I'm buying a Harley" she gave me that "really??" look. After about 2 minutes she said "As long as I have a happy husband, I don't care what you do." I was like "That's right and that's why I married you!" Not to mention I make 5x the annual salary she does. I offered to buy her a Sportster the day I wrote the check for my Wide Glide, but she's not the adventureous type...yet. Sometimes I still can't believe she was born and raised in the interior of Alaska. You would think someplace more like Sacremento with how much she does not like going outdoors. But...as for accessories...I just go buy what I want and usually will tell her....oooo except for the $900 I just spent on my snowmobile...oops......oh well.
