Trading up for Street Bob
The Harley dealer near me is having a sale this weekend, full retail on a trade-in for a new Harley, and I'm thinking about trading my 2014 883 Iron in for a 2014/15 FXDB. My only concern is getting parts for the bike. When I got my Iron, brand new, they took me to the parts department but I didn't get anything. At the time it seemed fine, but the little whine of the 883 through the stock exhaust kills me. I'm wondering if it would be wise to do a full stage one with say V&H short shots, better air cleaner and a tune on a brand new bike off the show room floor or would it be better to break the engine in and then do the upgrades? I know what the dealer would say..."Give us your money because everything else sucks!" But I'd like to get some real feedback. Thanks in advance.

Some people do break in the motor first, and then some people go straight to the upgrades like Devin and Kevin(DK).
As Boro has stated if you are going to do it your self you will definitely save money.
I would recommend routing externally with a Free Flowing Air Cleaner like the Outlaw 587 or the 636v. The EPA has required Harley to route dirty, oily crankcase air back into the air cleaner compromising the performance of your engine. The Outlaw Breathers vents it without compromising the performance or longevity of your motor.

As for the pipes i have heard a ton of people being happy with the V&H short shots, and the good thing about slip-ons is if you want the sound to be a bit different you can always go with something like the Thunder Torque Inserts, that allows you to get the exact sound you want.
Not sure what tuning route you are looking into but, Devin and Kevin(DK) use the Power Vision on their bikes and are 100% satisfied with it. One of the many great things about the Power Vision is that it is delivered to you with a Custom Map, for Your Bike, already installed in it. You can plug it in, load the new tune into your bike, unplug it, and be riding with the New Tune in 5 minutes. And you get unlimited lifetime technical support you cant beat that.
You can also see some of the Stage 1 options at the link below.

Hope this helps you out, will be looking to forward to seeing pictures of the new bike
