Roadglide fairing install
I have 90% of the parts for my fairing and I'm getting ready to start putting it together. I have taken pictures of a lot of the parts and as I go from here will be posting part numbers, pictures and issues with the install. Hopefully this will help with anyone else trying to do this mod. Please be patient as I'm trying to work and keep this updated at the same time.
Also the model I used was the 2008 FLTR Roadglide. Using a site like http://www.stcharlesharleydavidson.c...artfinder.htm# will help immensely when trying to figure out what parts you need. I also learned that if a part number ends in say -98 for example that part has been on around since 1998. So if the 2009 model calls for XXXXXX-98, all models since 1998 have used that same part.
First I will start with the basics. You need to buy the bracket or fabricate one yourself. I bought mine from cyclevision through axiom cycle for $329.99. I had a little issue with them not being in stock but after cancelling my order the owner of the company called me and let me know that they had them back in stock and if I wanted to reorder they were ready. We ended up talking bikes for almost 30 minutes.
I searched craigslist and found a guy in PA who had an outer fairing, 58733-98B, listed for $100. Shipping was another animal all together at at almost $80 plus $25 for the packing! This is over $400 in primer through Harley so I think I did ok.
I got the headlight assembly, 67775-01C, at a swap meet for $60. List price is $199.
The innner fairing was sourced through the forum for right around $250 shipped. Once again shipping is ridiculous because of the size but since it can run upwards of $750 through Harley I think it's worth finding second hand.
Now I had the inner, outer, lights and bracket. Hell, I'm almost complete...........
.......not even close! I began to look at the parts finder and realized that a major portion of the fairing was still missing.
57958-04B WINDSHIELD KIT w/ 57300013; screw/washers: 933, 5207, 6054 and 7462A; 70423-98 HARNESS dual headlamp adapter; 58705-98D windshield trim. These are just for the outer fairing!
Inner fairing: Trim, screws, storage box covers and the associated hardware...
One thing I did find out is that the screws that attach the inner fairing to the outer are a mystery even in the "Touring" section of the forum.

*I recommend that anyone looking to do this mod look through the "touring" forum and check out what issues they have found with their fairings and the fixes so that you can do them before installing on a dyna.*

Manufacturers if you're reading this most buyers would pay a few extra dollars for higher strength hardware. Point it out on the item description and the consumer will take notice.

I ordered the miscellaneous parts and hardware that I needed from Harley. The biggest part of that was the 77078-98A radio carrier bracket. That ran me right around $80.
I took my fairing to a buddy's family's shop. I had some left over paint that I gave them. If I remember correctly it ran me close to $100 a quart when I bought it. I went and picked up the flat clear kit. That was $140. Labor I will find out Monday when I pick it up.

I still have to figure out the wiring but I think it will sound good. I picked up a set of handlebar controls from a buddy that took them off his Ultra. FREE! My second favorite four letter F word. They have the stock wiring and plug still. I'm going to have to take the wiring apart to make them work with the aftermarket stereo and Streetbob harness. I will post more on that when I tear into it.
***So I changed my mind on the stereo (see follow on posts) and realized that making the handlebar controls work, while possible, is something I don't want to tackle***

***I posted more about the turn signals further down***
