hOW TO CHECK FRONT MOTOR MOUNT
The front mount does look to be moving a bit. This is my first rubber mounted Harley.
How can I check it for too much movement.
Didn't seem adequate to me so I purchased a new front engine mount and installed it following the vehicle/engine alignment procedure in the SM and my front mount needed to be shimmed out to keep it where it actually wanted to be, there has been no vibrations or decel shudder since then, butter smooth, almost too smooth; when the dealer saw what I'd done to the front engine mount to properly align it they had a deer in the headlights look, they had no idea the bike actually needed to be aligned
Basically, get under the bike and look at the mount and see if the rubber isolator is contacting the front engine mount bracket, if it's touching the mount the rubber isolator is gone, replace the front isolator and follow the alignment procedure when you install the new engine front isolator. I needed to use longer grade 8 bolts and several stainless washers to put the mount where it wanted to be located, but since then there has been zero decel shudder or odd vibration, the mount is still clear of the front engine bracket and still shows no signs of collapsing, it's no longer under tension and can actually do its job... isn't rubber mounted fun?
Not...
