Default More Engine Mounts

I have been trying to research this engine mount relation to vibration. The manual is no help whatever, and I have only seen discussions here regarding the lower gap and also torn or shredded mounts, and the trimming issues. I ordered the rear mount, since I thought it might be the more responsible culprit given the swing arm mount to the engine just aft of the mount. When I picked it up, I asked about the front mount, and they had him, so I brought it home also. I did talk to the service mgr, who tells me that the TOP gap needs to be min .030. When I get home, I looked at mine, and sure enough, no gap. The mount had sagged to the point that the bump stop was hitting the metal cross bar. So, could be that I have had a problem. I will install the new one, and then assess the vibration that I was having...mostly at mid ranges where we normally operate. At higher revs, it smooths out and is fine, but we don't operate normally at these higher revs....no tach, so whatever they are. Engine great; vibrations seem to be frame connected sufficient to connect to the pavement, imo. So, I hope this new front mount will help....will wait on the rear mount install to try to see how they react. But, clearly the front is at bump stop.....no clearance on top as HD recommends....more later.

Grab your reading glasses, a beer and plan on spending a few hours reading, this thread has some great information and opinions in it. Regarding the rear mount, from what I have read it's a good design and had little effect when replaced.

Also, it won't hurt a bit, to do the 'vehicle alignment' procedure in the manual. It cures a lot of the handling ails.. ie: corner-death-wobble. After I did mine, I no longer had issues in the corners. I swear this is probably not part of the initial assembly process...

I just replaced the front mount on my 07 wide glide. Took about 30 mins. The vibes on mine was so bad under 40 mph it woukd shake you off the bike. Not anymore! Wow is all I can say. She is so smooth now! Just about no vibes at all. Just engine pulse now and I love that feeling. I can ride all day now without any fatigue!

Thanks for the ackman and archer comments. I also agree 100% with Fishon....the actual mount replace was about 15 min....most time to lift and support. But, what I found was that the top bump stop on the mount, a raised rounded portion of the rubber, was completely flat and rubbing heavily, which you cannot see when installed. You can measure the gap, which was non-existent on this old mount. Bike is an 08 with about 11k on it. I now also hope that the handling in corners will improve just a bit....what I mean is that often I can feel the vibration actually affecting the tire traction...was skittering a bit. Not horrible problem, but should not do this. I have recently replaced the fork oil with much lighter weight, which did help on a stiff front end. Too cold, about 35F today to go much further, but initial ride has me happy as a clam. Would recommend this inspection to all dyna owners....easy if you look at the top gap, not bottom which is where my focus WAS. I had spent a lot of time on previous posts on this subject, but did not find attention to the top gap...may have missed it. Also reviewed many youtube posts as well. The manual sucks in this regard....thanks to the service mgr for pointing this out to me. Also thanks again for other comments.
