I have a 2015 street bob and it currently has mid controls on it. im 5 10 with a 32 inch inseam and wondering if I should do further forward mid controls or go with forward controls. I mainly ride back and forth to work not much highway rides.
I'm looking at the further forward mids myself (fat bob). I ride a lot of hilly/curvy roads and don't think I'd like the forwards. But I would also like just a little more room, so I think the further forward mids might be the way to go.
My 2015 SB was ordered with forwards and it's what I prefer and it's what I had on my 2005 LR. I'm also 5'10" but have a 30" inseam so you should be fine. When I get tired of riding with my feet on the pegs, I stretch my legs out and rest my heels on the front side of the forwards.
The thing I hate the most about mids is they are right where I put my feet down at stops.
Harley makes a reduced-reach forward controls kit as well, I have them on my '13 street bob. Same as the regular forward controls, only they mount an inch closer to the rider. Designed for those with shorter legs. I'm 6' and I love the way they let me straighten my legs out while still keeping a slight bend at the knee for an easy reach.
I'm 6' with a 32" inseam. I HAD to have forwards. Legs cramped up bad when I was on it anywhere near 1 hour.
Go to the dealer and sit on some bikes with forwards to get a feeling for it. My wife has a WG and she's 5' 7" but her seat is a little forward, but she digs the forwards.
I prefer the stock mid controls with highway pegs also. I like having my legs under me for tight control in turns and whatnot but the ability to stretch out on longer rides with the highway pegs.
The answer to this is going to be completely based on your own preferences. I'm 5'11" with a 32" inseam, and one of the reasons I bought the Street Bob was because it had mids on it. I grew up on dirt bikes and wanted the pegs there, because it felt natural to me. I would go to a dealer and sit on a few bikes to feel the difference and see what you like.
I'm the same height/inseam as you are and have forwards on my bike. I love them but I have noticed that around 70-80 my feet seem to slip down a little in the wind. Might just need pegs with a little more grip. I won't change back to mids, though.
Thanks for all the input guys. Just was second guessing going to forwards. But im sold putting them on this week. I think im gona go with the reduced reach tho.
