I think the problem here is that there certainly are at least 3 round air cleaners that can replace the stock unit - SE, Ness, K&N (this may be the same filter element as the Ness). All of these breathe more freely than the stock filter setup. More air will upset your AF mix and make your Bob run even leaner than it currently runs. This is not good. You need to add more fuel at the same time - so a download or fuel management system (PCIII, SERT, etc.) will be necessary.
So the first question is - Do you hate the foozball enough to spend $300+ to make it go away? Then the second question is one you are already asking - Do you trust your dealer's service dept? I don't trust mine to pour me a cup of coffee without screwing up - never mind show any type of competence working on a motorcyle - but that's just my experience.
here's what i did. 05 fxdli, low restriction slipons, se air cleaner(changed blue paper type filter with k&n HD-0800) and installed techlusion dfo/tfi. using their setup recommendations for the pots. my installation about 45min. to an hour. when i'm on "ding" nothing can wipe the smile off my face. i have no intentions of mechanical mods to the engine so a sert or pcIII were notrequired.
Even witha lot of mods I finally got sick of that damned football and removed it lke others have. Nice chrome flame AC cover fits perfectly on the KN filter.
Those that put in a new kit like my new K&N, what do you do with the little sensor? that was in the stock filter> My K&N has no place for it. I'm assuming I dont need it. Just zip tie it up? Have 2007 FLHSTC. Thanks
Steve what are you thinking.... ? Get some kind of fuel management.......Do you want it to just look good, or ride it... It's cold up there, save yer change and get it tuned... You and the bike will be happier....
