So ix4 first stares he tuned and modded his bike so it's runs on 87 and then says people are full of crap when they say their factory setup pings or runs crappy? Lol
If installing SE plugs and wires is modding then they are modded. An oil cooler is for longevity. HD XR1200 was stock with an oil cooler and 11 on touring bikes are standard.
I run them day one with E10 87 octane. By winter when I add the programmer they are usually at 3,000 miles or so.
I use Cobra FI2000R-CL. They are no longer made. Switched to the Super Chips Vigilante and they quit making tuners. However no matter what brand of turner used none are for mpg's and lower octane. They are all for increased performance.
Currently on my last three bikes a 15 Fat Bob, 16 Heritage and a 16 Road Glide Ultra CVO are all running 87 octane and I have not done anything to them. I will just do the oil cooler on the Dyna and Softail and SE plugs and wires on all some time this winter.
What I do is the same as others. It is to gain more power. However I only do those changes that do not require higher octane like cams, increase timing and compression. That would lock in the need for higher octane.
So the engine is stock cams, stock compression and stock timing and exhaust.
Ain't human nature great ? We'll spend $ thousands on stage X upgrades and tuners then balk at a few pennies for a fuel upgrade at the pumps. If that weren't amusing enough, we go all Milton Friedman like this, over a two wheeled recreational extravagance like it was the urban war wagon our wives use to car pool the neighborhood kiddies to hockey practices and school .
