If your friends does NOT have the square battery box cover, but instead a triangle shaped side panel...it is an FXR Low Rider ('94 or earlier)...different animal.

All your plans should work. Not sure how wide the rear can go without frame changes though...wasn't really a thing back then. The Evo will serve you well. Reliable and powerful with plenty of upgrade paths...

its a dyna low rider. has the square batt box. thanks for all the help. Guess I gotta go look at it and try to figure out what I want to pay. If I get it I will be bugging you guys some more for the customizing part of it.!!

Thank you all for the help so far!!!

Cool! Evo motors are great! Could be a real nice find. Your SG might get a little dusty once you start putting around on it

I've seen them in $5k range too here in SoCal. You'll have to see what the market is like in GA. Enjoy.

The 80" EVO is a sound engine. At around 10 to 25,000 miles, the cheap cam bearing usually commits suicide. Sometimes littering pieces of bearing cage within the engine. It is made by Torrington but has only about a dozen rollers encased in the cage. Replace it with the "upgraded" Torrington bearing that has about 20 rollers. This is much more durable. It's also a great time to replace the cam if you so choose. You may need adjustable push rods and cam followers too, if you change cams. I have a Crane Fireball 316-2B cam in my 80" EVO. It's been in service since 1997 or 8, with >100,000 add'l miles, and still going strong. If you ride A LOT, you may find that ethanol enhanced fuel can/may erode the tip of your carb's jet needle, causing readability issues. Easily fixed by replacing the needle. I've had to do this a few times so far. It only became an issue with ethanoled fuel.

The paper rocker box gaskets weep after about 10,000 miles. There are rubberized metal replacement gaskets that don't leak...ever. Get those.
That's about it. Oh yeah, you'll go thru an alternator reg/rec about every 30 to 40,000 miles and a clutch cable every 60,000 miles. HD doesn't have clutch cables anymore, so aftermarket will be your (and my) source from now on.

Get out there and
